Huntington School Board Notes
Huntington School Board members have accepted retirement requests from four employees, including teacher aides Glorious Logan (Flower Hill) and George Murphy (Southdown), security guard Fredrick Malm (Woodhull) and custodian Thomas Wagner. The employees are retiring at the close of business on June 30 with the exception of Mr. Wagner, who is retiring on September 26.
Trustees approved long-term substitute appointments for math teacher Samantha Arens (through approximately April 24), Southdown Primary School classroom teacher Michelle Audia (through the end of the school year), guidance counselor Patricia Colon (through the end of the school year), Woodhull Intermediate School special education teacher Kelly Connors (through the end of the school year) and Huntington High School science teacher Thomas Massone (through approximately April 11).
Trustees also took the following actions:
• Approved contracts with a variety of Long Island school districts related to special education services.
• Authorized a budget transfer in the amount of $70,000 to cover costs associated with health service costs for students in parentally placed out of district programs. The transfer follows an audit requirement.
• Accepted the resignation of Woodhull School teacher aide Regina Askerberg so she can accept a teacher assistant position in the district.
• Changed the assignment of Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School head custodian Scott Doxey to Southdown Primary School night custodian.
• Increased the weekly assignment of 10-momth clerk typist Gretchen Hannon from 15 hours to 17.5 hours.
• Increased the assignment of Huntington High School science teacher Alyssa D’Agostino from .5 to .6 for the remainder of the school year.
• Authorized Huntington High School teacher Peter Crugnale to engage in up to 18 hours of curriculum writing related to the AP Psychology course. He will be paid $49.95 per hour.
• Approved post-season pay for Huntington High School coaches Eliasib Acosta, Shawn Anderson, Marissa Bergmann, Debra Cheskes, Peter Fusco, Michael Kaplan, Margaret McConnell, Kieran Mock, Gilbert Smith, Travis Smith and Ronald Wilson.
• Authorized District Director of Guidance & Testing K-12 Kitty Klein to provide eight additional hours of professional development classes during the current school year. She will be paid $75 per hour.
• Approved additional work for part-time J. Taylor Finley Middle School English teacher related to the scoring of state exams.
• Authorized security guard Dewitt McCall, teachers Paraskevi Athanasiou and Elizabeth Tomlinson and teacher aide Dawn Weir to the district’s substitute employee list for 2013/14.
• Approved placement of a capital reserve fund proposition on the May 20 ballot.
• Approved of the disposal of an obsolete JVC VHS camcorder.
• Authorized clerical worker Maria Rodriguez to receive mileage reimbursement for her district related travel between buildings.
• Approved a stipulation and general release with the Associated Teachers of Huntington that serves to settle a matter of contract interpretation.
• Approved the addition of Pro Camps Worldwide to the list of organizations authorized to use district facilities. Pro Camps Worldwide would like to run a two-day football camp at Huntington High School.
• Approved new Board of Education policies regarding competitive bidding and offering, procurement of goods and services and alternative formats for instructional materials.
• Adopted a resolution to establish measurement, administrative and stability periods for the various district bargaining units in compliance with the Affordable Care Act.
• Adopted a resolution regarding the joint municipal cooperative bidding program the district participates in through Eastern Suffolk BOCES.
