Brielle Blatt Flourishes at
Tulane University

Brielle Blatt is flourishing at Tulane University in New Orleans. The Huntington High School Class of 2012 member is majoring in public health with a concentration in maternal and child health. She is also busy pursuing an interesting set of activities.

Ms. Blatt is enjoying her time at Tulane so much that she intends to remain at the university after she obtains an undergraduate degree and study there for a master’s degree in public health.

The Huntington alum joined the Sigma Delta Tau fraternity last fall and is now the organization’s programming chair of health and wellness. She’s always liked to get involved in school and community activities and makes friends easily.

At Huntington High School, Ms. Blatt enjoyed an extremely well-rounded experience, excelling in challenging courses, acting and dancing in drama club productions, playing on the field hockey team and taking a leadership role in a variety of projects and activities, including the school’s inaugural Relay For Life.

As high school juniors, Ms. Blatt and classmate Samantha Palmer collaborated on a group exhibit about Robert Moses that won the National History Day state championship and reached the national finals.

Ms. Blatt was one of the leading members of Huntington High School’s choral program, working closely with music teacher Veronica Mainville. Today the college sophomore is president of the Tulane University Ladies A Capella (TULA). “We have tons of concerts coming up this semester,” she said. “Groups from universities all over are visiting New Orleans on tours throughout this semester. We will be having joint concerts with groups from Ithaca College, Brown University, Harvard University and Wesleyan University.”

The Huntington grad intends to study in Amsterdam, the Netherlands next fall through the CIEE study abroad program. Ms. Blatt loves to travel and she has always had an adventurous streak so it’s not surprising she chose to spend a semester in Europe.

Meanwhile Ms. Blatt is staying very busy at Tulane. “I teach Zumba four or five times a week here at the student recreation center, which is open to local residents as well,” she said. “I have taught classes for multiple sororities, in addition to the fall Zumbathon ‘Party in Pink,’ which raised money for a global research grant for breast cancer prevention.”

Ms. Blatt is planning to return to her alma mater after the spring semester concludes. She intends to participate on a team in Huntington High School’s Relay For Life on June 7-8 and teach Zumba. She is also participating in the Relay For Life at Tulane and Loyola University with her sorority. “Last year, Sigma Delta Tau came in first place for Relay,” she said. “I will be teaching Zumba and singing with TULA at this event. It’s nice to combine all of my interests all in one.”
