Huntington High School Sparkles
at Prom

They came elegantly dressed, determined to have a good time. Mission accomplished. A crowd of 299 turned out for Huntington High School’s annual prom last Thursday night at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury. The group dined, danced, laughed and socialized, relaxing with one another before heading off in opposite directions as the evening came to a close.

The prom was a production of Huntington’s Class of 2015 and its faculty advisor, high school librarian Patricia Dillon. Most of the tickets were sold in the two-weeks prior to the event as prom-goers finalized their plans.

Dressed in snazzy suits and tuxedos and gowns and dresses that ranged from super-hip to beautifully elegant, the teenagers spent a majority of their time on the dance floor or huddled up with their date or friends.

“It was amazing time and very classy event,” said Huntington’s Student Government President Alex Castillo, who is headed to Northeastern University in the fall. “It was a great night with great friends. Everyone looked very good in their dresses and tuxes.”

Earlier in the evening, many students attended pre-prom parties during which they posed for what seemed to be an endless series of photos. Transportation from Huntington to the Crest Hollow varied, with some of the teenagers driving themselves while others rode in limousines.

The outdoor “Coketail” hour consisted of various beverages, a cold display station and butler passed hot hors d’oeuvres. The dinner menu included mixed greens topped with a vinaigrette dressings and dried cranberries, mandarin oranges and crispy noodles. Dinner featured a choice of New York medallions of beef served with fresh vegetables and potatoes or chicken parmigiana over penne pasta served with homemade garlic bread. Vegetarian and gluten free dinners were also available on request. An ice cream truffle was served for dessert.

DJ Anthony Troffa was joined by special guest Stevens Merilan aka DJ Bugz. The tandem had the crowd on the dance floor most of the night. “I thought the music was excellent,” one senior said. “The music and the dancing were the best part of the prom,” said another senior.

“I’ve been to three Huntington proms and this year was by far the best,” said Emily Saltman, who is headed to SUNY Purchase in the fall. “Kudos to the Class of 2015 for throwing us a great last prom.”

Class of 2014 faculty advisors Gina Colica and Victoria Lombardi were on hand to party the night away with the seniors they have worked so closely with for the past four years. The following day the two teachers announced the names of the seniors as they climbed onto the stage at the high school commencement to receive their diplomas.

“It was great to see everyone looking so formal in their dresses and tuxedos, especially the people who don’t normally dress up,” sophomore Katie Reilly said. “Crest Hollow is such a nice place to have the prom and it definitely made some pictures look even better!”

Seniors Zachary Burden and Sabrina Blakley were crowned prom king and queen, respectively. Juniors Andrew Napurano and Kayla Eidle were named the prince and princess of the prom, respectively.

“The prom was very nice,” said Tim Beck, who attended with fellow Class of 2014 member Lucie Lavelle. “The Crest Hollow was a great choice in my opinion. It was really nice inside and out. I like how they split the time inside and out. Lucie and I had a great time.” Mr. Beck is headed to the College of Mount Saint Vincent. Ms. Lavelle will be attended LaSalle University.
