Huntington Students Earn Honors
at Wilson Tech
Six Huntington High School students pursuing studies in a variety of curriculum areas have been inducted into the National Technical Honor Society at Western Suffolk BOCES-Wilson Tech.
Judith Andrade (cosmetology), Omotayo Ikuomensian (medical laboratory assisting), Peter Olesen (architectural design/CAD), Charytin Ortiz (certified personal trainer), Stephanie Quesquen (retailing) and Victoria Tito (professional health careers) were all inducted into the National Technical Honor Society.
“Wilson Technological Center is the Career and Technical Education Division of Western Suffolk BOCES,” states its website. “For 50 years Wilson Tech has helped teenagers and adults enter the labor force with skills for satisfying and successful careers. Programs at all Wilson Technological Centers also provide a foundation for post-secondary education.”
Four Huntington seniors captured scholarship awards after compiling exceptional records of study in their Wilson Tech programs. Erin Plante was presented with the FFA (Future Farmers of America) Outstanding Leadership scholarship that carries with it a $350 stipend. Ms. Plante has been pursuing equine studies at Wilson Tech.
Matthew Sherman garnered the ALIVE (Association of Long Island Vocational Educators) Outstanding Student scholarship and the $100 stipend that accompanies the award. Calvin Francis and Samantha Verme earned $500 ALIVE Outstanding Student academic scholarships for their fine work over the years.
“Career and Technical Education students spend half day in their home high school and half day at Wilson Tech,” states the organization’s website. “Tech’s main sites are located in Dix Hills, Republic Airport Farmingdale, Northport and Huntington. In addition, there is one specialized satellite location at the Equestrian Center at Thomas School of Horsemanship, Melville. Academic subjects for credit and academic intervention programs are provided at district request at no additional cost. Credit-bearing courses in English Language Arts and Mathematics, Science, Health, Physical Education, and a variety of academic electives are among the academic services available to help students meet scheduling and diploma requirements.”
