HHS Alum Nicole Burton Thrives
at UMASS

Nicole Burton is thriving at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst where she is studying nursing. The 2013 Huntington High School graduate completed a strong freshman year and has dived into campus activities.

“My year went really well,” Ms. Burton said. “I started some of my nursing classes such as Nursing 101 and Anatomy and Physiology. They went really well and even though they were hard, it was very worth it.”

In the fall, Ms. Burton will get more deeply involved in her nursing major, tackling Nursing 210 and Abnormal Psychology. “I am really looking forward to it and getting to know more of the nursing students,” she said.

The Huntington grad rushed a sorority last September, joining Kappa Kappa Gamma. She’ll move into the sorority’s house this fall. “I love everyone in it and everything we do,” said Ms. Burton about the sorority. “We do a lot of fundraisers. This year we did a 5k walk for Autism Speaks and Relay For Life. We also had something called a ‘pink party’ where we raised money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation, which funds breast cancer research and awareness.”

With her first year of college out of the way, Ms. Burton is pleased with where things stand. “I couldn’t be happier with my decision to go to UMASS and enrolling in the nursing program,” she said.

Ms. Burton was a fine student during her years at Huntington High School. She was honored at the Distinguished Seniors Dinner in April 2013. She especially enjoyed high school science courses and working with chemistry teacher Edward Florea. The articulate young lady even had an opportunity to participate in a credit-bearing career internship with reading teacher Jennifer Riccoboni.

Huntington teachers found Ms. Burton to be mature, conscientious and hardworking. She enjoys taking on challenging classes and learning new things.
