Spotlight on Huntington Photographer Jane Anne Donovan

Jane Anne Donovan is a creative teenager that puts her ideas and energy to good use. The Huntington High School senior is an exceptional young photographer who has produced stunning work. Her photos offer viewers a delightful interlude in their lives.

Ms. Donovan has worked hard to develop the skills necessary to create remarkable art. She recently won eight Best in Show Awards at the Long Island Media Arts Show at Five Towns College in Dix Hills. Judges were impressed with the senior’s fascinating pieces and so were her fellow student-photographers and the hundreds of folks that passed through the exhibit.

With an eye toward detail that others can only envy, Ms. Donovan possesses a special gift, the fruits of which she enthusiastically shares with the world. With a strong start at Huntington High School, there’s no telling where the teenager’s talent will take her in the future.

Questions and Answers with Jane Anne Donovan

Q: How old are you and what grade are you in?
Donovan: “I am 17 years old and in twelfth grade.”

Q: How did you first get interested in photography?
Donovan: “I first became interested in photography when I was enrolled in the Intro to Photography class when I was in tenth grade.”

Q: Where do you get your ideas?
Donovan: “I get my ideas and inspiration from looking at other photographs and the world around me.”

Q: Is there any specific type of photography you like best?
Donovan: “The photography that I enjoy the most features the photos that often make you question what is going on. Surrealism is one of my favorites because it can really make you think differently and inspire the viewer.”

Q: How has the Huntington photography program helped you with your love of photography?
Donovan: “The Huntington photography program has helped me with my love for photography by showing me all the different types of techniques that I need to acquire to be a good photographer. From film to digital, I have learned it all and I love every different aspect.”

Q: Do you plan to continue with photography or go to school for it?
Donovan: “I do plan on continuing photography after high school, although it is not clear yet I will choose it as my major. I know it will always be a major part of my life.”

Q: What are some of your accomplishments?
Donovan: “I have had at least 30 of my photographs published in multiple issues of the magazine Huntington Life. I earned an award in an Elks Club photography contest. Just recently I received eight best in shows at the Long Island Media Art Show.”

Q: What clubs, activities or sports do you participate in?
Donovan: “I have been on the varsity swim team since the eighth grade and this year I was captain. I have recently become a member of the Huntington Camera Club that meets at the Huntington Public Library.”

Q: What would you consider your best quality as a person and an artist?
Donovan: “My best quality is being able to think for myself. This helps me both as a person and as an artist.”
