Register for Huntington’s Fall Adult Ed Program
The Huntington School District’s adult education program is nearing its 60th anniversary. It continues to meet the needs of district residents with a variety of enlightening courses and seminars.
Classes begin the week of Monday, September 23. Those wishing to take a class can register online through Turbo Roster at http://www.TurboRoster.com/Code/jhauyco. Remember to use code jhauyco. Registration is also available in the Adult Education office at Huntington High School on the night of the first class. Courses run for eight week blocks, unless otherwise indicated in the fall bulletin.

The line-up of courses includes American History, Basketball for Men, Beginner’s Italian, Bridge-Beginner, Bridge-Advanced, Ceramics, Chinese for Beginners, Cooking, Crocheting, Dance, Digital Photography I, Digital Photography II, Economics, Internet A to Z, Introduction to Computer Keyboarding, Introduction to Computers-Using Microsoft Office, Iyengar Yoga, Knitting, Microsoft Office Advanced, Rahini Yoga& Meditation, Painting, Preparation for Citizenship, Sign Language, Spanish for Beginners, Spanish Level-Intermediate, Spanish-Advanced, Soccer for Men (Indoor), Tai Chi Chi Kung, Volleyball for Women, Yoga in the Iyengar Style, Zumba and Zumba Gold.
Seminars include Addressing Long Term Care, Financial Strategies 101-Dollars & Sense and
Friends & Families CPR and First Aid for Children, Getting Paid to Talk, Making Money with Your Voice: An Introduction to Professional Voice Overs, How Money Works, Meditation not Medication and Passport to Retirement.
Program Director Dr. Kenneth A. Card, Jr. is also open to new ideas for additional courses. He encourages suggestions from those who would like to take a specific class or teach one.
Regular course fees are set at $15 for resident senior citizens (whenever space is available, except for those classes marked special fee or limited), $55 for other district residents and $65 for those living outside the Huntington School District. Fees can vary based on the specific course and the duration of the class. (One day seminars can run as little as $20 for residents.)
There is also a two-night (October 22 and October 24) auto insurance reduction course sponsored by the National Traffic Safety Institute and courses offered through Western Suffolk BOCES, including Adult Basic Education (GED) and beginner, intermediate and advanced level classes in English as a Second Language.
Course and seminar sites include Huntington High School, J. Taylor Finley Middle School, Woodhull Intermediate School, Jefferson Primary School and Southdown Primary School. Exact locations for individual offerings can be found in the program brochure.
The adult education program is self-sustaining. It is conducted primarily for adults in the community, but is open to those as young as 16 years of age wherever space exists, with the exception of basketball and where otherwise indicated.
