A Tradition of Excellence since 1657

Zinburger Opening to Benefit Huntington Foundation

The Huntington Foundation will benefit from next week’s opening of Zinburger Wine & Burger Bar at the Walt Whitman Shops on Rte. 110 in Huntington Station.

Zinburger is set to open its doors on Tuesday, October 22. As a way to give back to the community, the company will donate 15 percent of its sales from the opening through Friday, October 25 to the Huntington Foundation for Excellence in Education, a 20-year old not-for-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of education in the Huntington School District. Since parents created it in 1993, the Foundation has funded over $800,000 worth of educator-generated grants.

“It always helps to find something new and different when it comes to fundraising,” Huntington Superintendent James W. Polansky said. “Many thanks to Zinburger for offering this opportunity and obviously to HFEE for its creativity and for its ongoing support of our students and programs!”

The Huntington Foundation is led by President Maria Cassar and executive board members Janice Kimchy (vice-president, marketing), Sheri Lewis-Taylor (vice-president, grants administration), Karann Pashkin (treasurer), Nancy Shivers (recording secretary), Laurene Napurano (webmaster and gala chairperson). A dedicated band of individual school liaisons is also in place.

The Huntington Station restaurant will be Zinburger’s first in New York. The restaurant’s décor is sleek, contemporary, upbeat and playful featuring rich wood and earth tones and stylish, comfortable seating. The 5,141-square foot establishment features nine high definition televisions located throughout the restaurant with a seating capacity of 193, including an outdoor patio.

In addition to gourmet burgers, Zinburger will also offer a turkey burger, turkey Sloppy Joe, ahi burger, vegi burger, two chicken sandwiches and five hearty salads. Side selections include generous portions of hand-cut fries, sweet potato fries, zucchini fries, onion rings, coleslaw, cottage cheese and double truffle fries. A dessert menu features old fashioned, hand-dipped shakes, floats and malts as well as banana cream and chocolate cream pies.

Zinburger Huntington Station is located at the Walt Whitman Shops (formerly the Walt Whitman Mall), 160 Walt Whitman Road in Huntington Station. Operating hours are Monday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The Huntington Foundation’s annual Reach for the Stars fundraising gala is set for Friday, February 7, 2014 at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury. The evening will celebrate public education.

Patricia Dillon, a longtime district librarian and class advisor, who is currently the Huntington High School librarian, will be presented with the 2014 Spirit Award for her years of dedicated service to the community. The evening will feature cocktails, music, dancing, dinner, raffles, silent and live auctions and much more. Tickets will go on sale soon.

Proceeds the Huntington Foundation receives from Zinburger will be plowed back into its twin grant programs that support innovative educational practices and equipment not funded through regular district appropriations.
