World Language Honor Societies

The world language honors societies at Huntington High School are a set of proud organizations. They recently held their annual induction ceremonies in the auditorium, bringing into fold dozens of new members.
The evening mixed song, dance and even poetry with such time-honored elements as tapping and the lighting of candles by the new inductees. "It was a wonderful night for our department," said Carmen Kasper, district director of world languages, ESL and bilingual programs.
"It is with great pride that we gather every year to celebrate the achievements of these young men and women," said senior Debbie Gomez, a member of the Spanish Honor Society, who opened the induction ceremony.
Society faculty advisors Mercy Pena (Spanish), Silvia Gilbert (Italian) and Deidre Mayer (French) beamed as the teenagers uttered their respective society's pledge and then presented certificates to the new members.
The new Spanish Honor Society inductees include Usra Amin, Charles Beers, Sabrina Blakley, Megan Boyce, Yasmi Campos-Larin, Olivia Castillo, Ariella Danziger, Kaitlin Dayton, Anna DiNardi, Kayla Eidle, Christian Fiordelisi, Heather Forster, Fiona Geier, Samantha Glicker, Hillary Hardardt, Rogelio Jimenez, Lenni Joya-Amaya, Natalie Lanzisero, Justin Loturco, Ashley Lopez, Cindy Lopez, Makenzie Maloney, Leyda Mata, Timothy Mattiace, Daniel McCartney, Shannon McGovern, Allison Minoff, Jason Moreira, Monica Owen, Suzanne Petryk, Anthony Puca, Daniel Reiver, Lee Reiver, Matthew Rosenbauer, Joseph Saginaw, Mary Sheehan, Erica Thermidor, Can Toprak, Brendan Wirth, Lana Ziegler and Kathryn Zimmerman.
