Monthly Awards Get Washington Students Excited

It’s an interesting phenomenon. When Principal Marsha Neville takes to the Washington Primary School airwaves over the public address system and announces it’s time to recognize a particular month’s Washington Ways honorees, students get excited for themselves and for classmates, too.

Sure any youngster is happy and proud to receive an award, but Washington’s students take equal delight in congratulating and applauding classmates who receive the coveted award.

November’s honorees included Matthew Jimenez, Eunice Lee, Marin Mullaly, Janiya Curry, Warren Daniel, Justin Villatoro, Griffin Kanzer, Kimberly Bermudez-Gomez, Valerie Ferreira, Kayleigh Bender, Clemente Alvarez, Jackson Rosario, Christian Panameno-Delcid, Yoanny Suarez, Janeth Saravia, James Kretschmer, Faith Andrews, Jaclyn Mendez-Acosta, Xiara Surez and Kevin Reyes

Washington’s “blue ticket” classes for November included those of first grade teacher Mary Greever and second grade teacher Patricia Maltempo. “It is always a pleasure to recognize students and classes for working hard and demonstrating respect and responsibility in their classrooms and around the building, Mrs. Neville said.

Red tickets are presented to individuals for notable good behavior outside of classrooms, including hallways, buses, the playground and cafeteria, etc. At the end of the month, the student in each class with the greatest number of red tickets is recognized with a special certificate.

Entire classes can earn blue tickets for positive group behavior out-of-the-classroom. Blue tickets are also awarded to the two classes within the building with the most tickets overall. Students enjoy being cited and collecting the colorful tickets.

White tickets are awarded weekly for good behaviors and actions in the classroom. White ticket winners are honored with special recognition in their classroom at the end of each week and their names are announced every Monday morning.
