HHS 2011 Alum Excels at
Emerson College
She was outstanding in every way when she attended Huntington High School and now Emily Feldman is starring at Emerson College, where she is majoring in marketing communications and carrying a minor in journalism.
The Huntington alum transferred to Emerson after spending her freshman year at New York University. "I'm really happy that I transferred because I have amazing friends and connections in both New York City and in Boston," Ms. Feldman said.
The college sophomore is "extremely busy" with activities on-and-off campus. After earlier interning at a small New York City public relations firm specializing in the fashion and beauty industry, Ms. Feldman is currently interning at AMP Agency, a full service marketing firm ("think Mad Men, only less risqué," she said) in Boston whose clients range from Hasbro to Maybelline.
"At AMP, I work as the event planning intern where I help plan nationwide events for the agency's clients," Ms. Feldman said. "Working at there has given me experience in not just marketing and event planning, but also in a corporate environment. The experience that I have gained at AMP is valuable and has also helped me land a few summer internship offers back in New York City, where I will be during the summer."
The Huntington grad is a member of the marketing staff of several Emerson campus organizations. "I work on the marketing staff of Em Magazine, which is Emerson's premiere fashion and culture magazine," Ms. Feldman said. "I have also worked as a stylist at Em Magazine, where I assisted the fashion director style and put together photo-shoots."
Ms. Feldman also belongs to a group known as EmComm, which is Emerson's own student run marketing agency that attracts various clients seeking students to help with their marketing.
"The courses that I've taken at Emerson have been great," Ms. Feldman said. Her favorites have been two marketing classes: "Understanding Consumers" and "Brands, Organizations and Strategies."
"In my Understanding Consumers course, I learned the psychology behind what causes consumers to make decisions and how tailor ads to the way they behave," Ms. Feldman said. "My Brands, Organizations, and Strategies class was also great because I learned about specific brands and what they did to become as successful as they are today. Both were also taught by great professors!"
As a Huntington senior, Ms. Feldman interned with Jefferson Primary School third grade teacher Eileen Wallace. She earned the foreign language department's French Award for overall excellence in the romance language.
"Overall, I would say that my college experience has been atypical," Ms. Feldman said. "I am really trying to learn what my interests are and am glad that I am figuring it out now and getting experience early. The people who I've met and the friends that I've made so far have helped make my college experience amazing. It's weird to think that I only have two years left!"
