Huntington School Board Notes

Woodhull Intermediate School special education teacher Joan Verrelli will be leaving her post at the end of the school year. The veteran educator's request to retire was approved by the Huntington School Board during Monday night's meeting.

Trustees also accepted the resignations of Jefferson School monitor Lisa DeCicco and Huntington High School security guard Roberto Jimenez. Melissa Goldsborough (Southdown School, special education), Susan Nastro (Finley Middle School, English) and Peggy Gallagher (Woodhull School, librarian) were all approved to work as long-term substitute teachers.

Trustees also took the following actions:

• Approved a probationary appointment for teacher assistant Justin Vaughans, who has been assigned to Washington Primary School.

• Appointed Erminia Smith as the MSG Varsity liaison for 2012/13. She will be paid a stipend $2,000.

• Approved Patricia Quinn to work as a driver education program instructor. She will be paid $46.74 per hour.

• Authorized Richard Liebowitz, Veronica Mainville, Nicole Lynch, Jessica Christen and Martha Garland to work as piano accompanists during 2012/13. They will be paid $24 per hour when they work.

• Approved Victoria Lombardi, Lauren Desiderio, Jordan Gould, Fred Bisogno, Kara Horn, Erik Bruckbauer, Nicole Cooper, Nancy Goddard and Edward Florea to work as substitute teachers in the alternative high school program. They will be paid $53.25 per hour when needed.

• Approved Joanne Gurrieri to work as an adult education program instructor. She will be paid $25 per hour.

• Approved a change in the tenure date of Flower Hill School dual language teacher Karen Melara from Sept. 1, 2013 to Sept. 1, 2014.

• Approved a memorandum of understanding with the Center for Creative Development Ltd, which will bring the four-part "Just Like Me" drug prevention program to Huntington High School during the current school year.

• Appointed Dame Forbes and Lori Kenny as faculty advisors to the Huntington High School Science Honor Society.

• Approved a contract with The Daytop Preparatory School for the education of a Huntington School District resident who is of school age.

• Approved a consultant services contract with Eden II Programs to provide services related to the education of autistic children.

• Approved a consultant services contract with Learning Curve Consultants, LLC for 19 days of professional development sessions. The company will be compensated at the rate of $1,150 per day.

• Approved a contract with New York Therapy Placement Services, Inc. that covers a variety of speech, resource room and behavioral related services and evaluations.

• Approved a contract with Our Lady of Peace Academy at Montfort Therapeutic Residence in Port Jefferson for the education of a Huntington School District resident who is of school age.

• Approved a special education services contract with the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Central School District.

• Approved a consultant services contract with Heather Thorgersen, who will provide SEARCH program workshops during the 2012/13 school year. She will be paid $75 per 45 minute session on the intermediate grade level and $50 per 30 minute session on the primary grade level.

• Authorized the placement of Dance Xpress of Long Island on the list of organizations approved to use district facilities. The company is interested in using J. Taylor Finley Middle School next June for a dress rehearsal and recital.

• Authorized the placement of G&G Long Island Farmers Market on the list of organizations approved to use district facilities.

• Authorized teachers Elizabeth Casazza and Kristen Heimbach and clerical Anne Connell to receive mileage reimbursement for their job related travel between buildings.

• Authorized the disposal of various pieces of athletic equipment including hurdles, volleyball standards, a balance beam, springboard and parallel bar base and a FAX machine. The items have are listed as being either unusable or obsolete. They will be placed on the district's surplus bid list.

• Authorized budget transfers from one code to another to cover the costs associated with two special education student placements ($74,548), tutoring displaced special education students ($5,000) and Southdown School teacher attendance at a conference ($530).

• Approved the addition of Kristin Kiernan, Louis Nucci, Vanessa Nilsen, Jeanne Pomponio and Thomas Leninger to the substitute teacher list. They will be paid $90 per diem when they work.

• Approved the addition of Marianne Gratto, LaRaeshell Green, Sabrina Mueller and Karen Lombardo to the substitute food service worker list. They will be paid $9 per hour when they work.

• Approved the addition of Augusto Godoy and Nancy Sharapata to the substitute clerical worker list. They will be paid $10.50 per hour when they work.

• Approved the addition of Valerie Dela-Acevedo to the substitute teacher aide list. She will be paid $9 per hour when she works.
