Huntington School Briefs
The Huntington School District Special Education PTA will hold its monthly Coffee Talk on Monday, October 15 at 10 a.m. at the Huntington Public Library on Main Street in the village. The meeting is open to all parents.
SEPTA provides information, advice and encouragement to parents going through the special education process with their child. Parents are welcome to come to the meeting to learn, share, express concerns or ask questions.
Retired Teacher Passes Away
Retired Huntington English and reading teacher Placido Trovato passed away September 27. He was 94 and residing in Boca Raton, Florida. Mr. Trovato taught at Robert L. Simpson Junior High School and J. Taylor Finley Junior High School from September 1964 until retiring in June 1980.
Born on August 20, 1918 in Westerly, Rhode Island, Mr. Trovato was one of six children. "Everyone loved Joe," according to a death notice that announced his passing. Mr. Trovato was known for making friends wherever he went. He especially enjoyed the theatre, traveling and singing, but most of all he loved cooking.
Mr. Trovato obtained his undergraduate and graduate degrees at Columbia University, earning a BS in English in 1951 and a MA in reading in 1958.
Brielle Blatt Enjoying Tulane
Brielle Blatt has so much energy and enthusiasm that it's no easy task to contain it all. A member of Huntington High School's Class of 2012, the teenager is a freshman at Tulane University in New Orleans.
"Things are great," Ms. Blatt said about her first few weeks at Tulane. "I love it. I'm involved with everything as always and my grades are doing very well so far."
2012/13 HHS Student Government
This year's Huntington High School student government is led by President Todd Colvin, Vice President Claire Beach, Treasurer Monica Casabona, Corresponding Secretary Brent Filippini and Historian Hannah Pipolo.
Teachers Fred Bisogno and Anthony Troffa serve as faculty advisors to the organization.

This week's Huntington Booster Club golf outing at Indian Hills Country Club featured many great raffle items donated by community businesses.
The items included three $100 Foot Locker gift cards and New York Jets and New York Giants footballs and a new basketball, an "Olivia Bib" necklace and a "dessert and wine trunk show," a unique "I Love Huntington" wooden sign and $50 gift cards to Christopher's Courtyard Café and Madison's Niche and six tickets to a film at the Cinema Arts Centre, gift certificates to Toast and Co., Two Blondes & a Stove and Osteria Da Nino, a haircut and blow-out at Blonde D's and an instant facial lifting at Spa Angel Vie, Blue Devil Booster Club apparel, a 30 day membership to New York Sports Club, including one hour of personal training and gift certificates to Spa Adriana and Aromatherapy.
The raffles also included a $100 gift certificate to Marsh's, a $100 gift card to Christopher's Courtyard Café, including new beer glasses, classic movie DVDs, gift certificates to Marty's Seafood, Shoreline Beverage and DiRaimo's Pizza, gift certificates to 34 New Street and Haven Hairspa, a cookie platter, mug set, gourmet hot cocoas and various candies, a basket of Major League Baseball apparel items and a tote, a Rookie's Sports Bar gift certificate, two tickets to see Fiona Apple at the Paramount, a foursome of golf at the Crescent Club, driveway seal-coating, a Paradise golf bag, an animal print scarf and a sporty brown leather gold chained bag from Francine's, a basket of cheer from Southdown Liquors, treats from Bon Bons, a basket of New York Giants goodies, the newest makeup from Estee Lauder, fancy cuff links and a sassy bracelet from Links of London, gift certificates to Ravagh Persian Grill and The Crushed Olive, the iLuz portable DVD and "The Social Network" and two pizzas from Rosa's, gift certificates to Oliver's with Stila cosmetics and dinner at FADO, Chelsea Handler's book and Joan Rivers' DVD, Violet Blonde and Clinque Happy for Men fragrances, a gift certificate to Junior's and aromatic white wine from Bottles and Cases, a gift certificate to Jonathan's Restaurant, a two-hour session in the simulator at Golf & Body and a gift certificate to Restaurant Joanina.
A Target gift card along with gift certificates to Porto Fino Ristorante, Besito and Tomo Hibachi were also among the many other raffle items that pulled in several thousand dollars for the Huntington Booster Club.
