Valinda O'Garra has been appointed as the assistant coach of the Huntington High School fencing team for the winter season.
Playoff Spot Clinched
The Huntington boys' soccer team scored two first half goals and went on to defeat Copiague at home, 2-1. The victory clinched a playoff berth for the Blue Devils.
Huntington took a 1-0 lead with about 10 minutes remaining in the first half when William Ortez scored off an assist from Raul Alvarenga. Hugo Rivas later also put the ball in the net. Pat Wolber picked up an assist on that goal. Blue Devil goalie Ari Moskowitz made four saves.
Late Game Loss
The Huntington boys' soccer team took a 2-1 lead into halftime at Hauppauge, but the Eagles stormed back with two unanswered second half goals in the final five minutes to top the Blue Devils, 3-2.
William Ortez and Evert Coto scored for Huntington. Ari Moskowitz stopped six shots in goal.
Tough-as-Nails Gillian Ehrman
Gillian Ehrman is tough-as-nails. The Huntington High School junior scored the Blue Devil field hockey team's only goal and goalie Greta Farrell made it stand up as Huntington shutout host Northport, 1-0.
Ehrman scored her goal off an assist by senior Maggie Askerberg with about 24 minutes remaining in the first half. The shutout was the first of Farrell's career.
No Goals Leads to Loss
The Huntington field hockey team managed five shots on goal, but none reached the back of the net in a 1-0 loss at Centereach. The game-winning goal came with about seven minutes left on the clock. Greta Farrell made eight saves in goal for the Blue Devils.
Bellport Nips Blue Devil Girls
The Huntington girls' soccer team's defense was sterling against visiting Bellport as the Blue Devils held the Clippers scoreless until about seven minutes remained in second half. The winning goal came off a corner kick. Blue Devil goalie Hannah Burnett was splendid, stopping eight shots.
Huntington Swimmers Win
Erica Flor was magnificent in taking the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke to help lift the Huntington girls' swimming and diving team over West Babylon, 92-86. Noelle Harvey captured the 100 breaststroke and 200 IM to give the Blue Devils their winning margin.
Great Effort by Girls' VB
It's been a tough season for Huntington's girls' volleyball team, but the Blue Devils have never failed to play hard, regardless of the score. The squad features a close knit group of players who have managed to keep their heads held high.
At Kings Park last week, Huntington fell, 25-7, 25-11, 25-15 to the undefeated Kingsmen. Once again, the Blue Devils gave it their all, but came up short.
