HHS Students Attend Luncheon with First Lady

With the presidential election fast approaching, a group of seven Huntington High School students attended a luncheon featuring First Lady Michelle Obama at the Crest Hollow Country Club.

The Huntington delegation included Devon Nelson, Luis Rodriquez, Kevin Solomowitz, Joshua Solomowitz, Tiana Thurmond, Debbie Gomez and Cindythia Harjono.

Former Suffolk County Legislature Majority Leader Jon Cooper hosted the luncheon. He invited the Huntington students to attend as his guests. "I asked them afterwards how they enjoyed it on a scale of 1-to-10," Mr. Cooper said. "One said it was an '11" and another said it was a '100,'" Mr. Cooper said laughing.

Some of the Huntington students were able to shake hands with Mrs. Obama and have their photos taken with various dignitaries in attendance. The group sat at a table near the dais. The teenagers were excited to be at the luncheon and said they "thoroughly enjoyed" the scene.

The Huntington students have studied the election, its issues and the major party candidates during their classes. Having an opportunity to attend a major event so close to the Nov. 6 vote was a unique experience. "I was very happy to help facilitate this for a great group of Huntington High School students," Mr. Cooper said. "They were very impressive young men and women."
