Three Huntington BOE Seats
Up for Grabs

Five candidates are in the race for three seats on the Huntington School Board. The top three vote-getters will serve three-year terms commencing July 1, 2012 and running through June 30, 2015.
The final line-up of candidates includes incumbent Emily Rogan and challengers Tom DiGiacomo, William Dwyer, Xavier Palacios and Susan Tully. Incumbents Elizabeth Black and Kimberly Brown have opted not to run for re-election.
A drawing of lots to determine the candidate's order on the ballot was held on Tuesday, April 17. Conducted by District Clerk Elizabeth Troffa, the drawing produced the following results: 1. Thomas DiGiacomo; 2. William Dwyer; 3. Emily Rogan; 4. Susan Tully; 5. Xavier Palacios.
Voting will take place May 15 in the Huntington High School lobby from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. To be eligible, an individual must be a U.S. citizen, 18 years of age or older, a resident of Huntington School District for at least 30 days and be registered to vote in a general election or with the school district.
The PTA hosted a meet-the-candidates night this past Wednesday evening in the J. Taylor Finley Middle School large group instruction room. A crowd of about 200 listened to the candidates respond to questions over a two-hour period.
Applications for absentee ballots may be applied for at the District Clerk's office at the district's administrative offices located at 50 Tower Street, Huntington Station, at least seven days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter or up to the day before the election if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. Absentee ballots must be returned by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15 for them to be counted in the 2011 election and budget vote.
