The Huntington boys' basketball team made a game of it but was outscored in the second half by West Babylon, 33-21, en route to a 58-46 loss.

Ty Herion led Huntington with 13 points. Patrick Reilly had 12 points and Dan McGovern added seven more. The Blue Devils trailed 16-9 after the first quarter but rallied to knot the score at 25-all by halftime.

Joellen Ceide Leads the Way

Sophomore Joellen Ceide scored eight points to help lead the Huntington girls' basketball team over host Half Hollow Hills West, 34-27. Heather Forster added eight points, six blocks and 10 rebounds.

Huntington trailed after one quarter, 9-6 and at halftime, 18-16. The Blue Devils went on a third quarter 13-1 run to gain the upper hand. Ellyn Byrnes scored four points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Colleen Wright dropped in another five points.

Raynisha Witherspoon, Mackenzie Maloney and Laurelle Byrne-Cody combined for nine points.

Reilly Drops 16 Points in Loss

The Huntington boys' basketball team played a great game, leading at one point by eight points, before falling to visiting Half Hollow Hills West, 69-62.

The Blue Devils led 17-12 after one quarter, but had fallen behind by halftime, 37-35. Huntington went down fighting in a game that energized the crowd of about 250 fans.

Junior Patrick Reilly led all Blue Devil scorers with 16 points. Junior Kiernan McGovern pumped in 15, including three 3-point baskets. Senior John McCarthy dropped in 11 points, with most coming on three 3-pointers. Sophomore David Casey had 10 points. Seniors Jack Forster and Joe Dumpson combined for 10 points.

Blue Devils' Fencing Nipped

Huntington's boys' fencing team was nipped by Commack and Brentwood/Bayport-Blue Point by identical 14-13 scores. Commack topped the Blue Devils, 16-11.

Huntington Swimming Edged

The Huntington boys' swimming and diving team lost a pair of meets to Hauppauge (100-83) and Deer Park (96-89).

Too Much to Handle

The West Babylon girls' basketball team proved too much for Huntington to handle as the Eagles bested the Blue Devils, 43-31.

Huntington struggled early in the game, falling behind 15-8 after eight minutes and 25-12 by halftime. The Blue Devils used a 15-7 third quarter run to climb back into the game and cut their deficit to five points as 32-27. That's as close as Huntington could get.

Heather Forster led the Blue Devils with 11 points. Raynisha Witherspoon scored eight points and Mackenzie Maloney added seven points.

ESM Pins Huntington Wrestlers

The Eastport South Manor wrestling team used a combination of seven pins and forfeits to turn back Huntington, 53-29.

The Blue Devils received victories from John Arceri (injury default), Brandon Mendez (3-0), Joseph Puca (fall 2:43), Kevin Mendez (technical fall 4:28), Nicholas Lupi (forfeit) and Anthony Puca (2-1). Huntington forfeited five weight classes in the meet.

Huntington JV BB Wins

The Huntington girls' junior varsity basketball team easily moved past Half Hollow Hills West in a league contest, 42-26.

Wrestlers Top Bellport

The Huntington wrestling team picked up a much-needed victory when it topped visiting Bellport in Louis D. Giani Gymnasium, 45-30.

The Blue Devils received victories from John Arceri (3-0), Corey Jamison (fall 1:07), Carlos Pereira (3-0), Genaro Alvarenga (10-4), Brandon Mendez (7-2), Joseph Puca (fall 3:13), Kevin Mendez (7-5), Oscar Romero (forfeit), Nick Lupi (fall 3:46) and Anthony Puca (fall 2:15).
