Huntington School Board Notes

Huntington School Board members have approved probationary appointments for special education chairpersons Renee Jones-Vaughans and Diana Rich and Huntington High School science teacher Terence Doran. Trustees took the action during their August 6 meeting in the J. Taylor Finley Middle School large group instruction room.

Trustees approved part-time appointments for Latin teacher Kristin Heimbach, high school math teacher David Moriarty and high school physics teacher Brendan Burkhart. Part-time business teacher Suzette Biagi's assignment was increased to .8.

Woodhull School ESL teacher Alice Pancir was approved to return from a leave of absence, effective Sept. 1. Huntington High School special education teacher Carol Emmerman was granted a leave of absence for the 2012/13 school year.

Trustees also took the following actions:

• Approved a consultant services contract with Accessible Learning Technology Alternatives to provide assistive technology evaluations. The company is located in Shirley, NY.

• Authorized Washington School psychologist Kathleen Mallen-Ozimkowski and Flower Hill School special education aides Whitney Voyages and Barbara Santoro to be recalled from the district's preferred eligible list, effective Sept. 1.

• Authorized up to five days of additional work related to development of the Huntington High School master schedule for Assistant Principal Brenden Cusack.

• Authorized up to two days of additional work related to screening and interviewing teacher candidates for Joseph Leavy, chairperson of humanities.

• Authorized up to two days of additional work related to screening and interviewing teacher candidates for Rae Montesano, chairperson of science.

• Authorized up to four days of additional work related to the transition to a new secretary at Jefferson School for Eva Lodato.

• Authorized up to four days of additional work for Renee Jones-Vaughans, chairperson of CPSE related to CPSE intakes and transition.

• Approved non-instructional appointments for Anne Connell (10-month clerk typist in the district foreign language department office), Debra Ciccone (10-month clerk typist at Flower Hill School) and Christine Renzulli (nurse at Huntington High School).

• Approved a change in assignment for clerical worker Theresa Campsey from 12-month clerk typist at Huntington High School to 12-month senior clerk typist at Woodhull School.

• Authorized Huntington High School students Alexander Castillo, Carolyn Cimetta, Caroline Doscas, Melanie Grossman, Lucie Lavelle and Matthew Weinschreider to serve as science lab assistants during the 2012/13 school year. They will be paid $7.25 per hour.

• Approved Samantha Natalello as Highsteppers advisor and Lora Ayala as Highsteppers assistant advisor.

• Approved a consultant services contract with Adult & Children with Learning Disabilities for educational services. The company, which is based in Bethpage, NY, will be paid at the rate of $95 per hour.

• Approved a RFP award to Fitzharris & Company for services related to the district's dental insurance program. Fitzharris & Company will utilize Met Life Insurance as its provider. The district's premium will not be increased in the contract's second year.

• Approved a contract with the certified public accounting firm of Cullen & Danowksi, LLP of Port Jefferson to provide auditing services during the 2012/13 school year. The company will be paid $43,800 based upon its projection of the time it will spend on its work for the district.

• Approved a special education services contract with ASCENT-A School for Individuals with Autism. The company, which is based in Deer Park, NY, will be paid at the rate of $48,753 per student for the 2012/13 school year, $8,126 for summer semester services, $140 per hour for parent training and ABA supervision as per IEP and $100 per hour for ABA instruction as per IEP.

• Approved a consultant services contract with Avatar Counseling Innovations, Inc. for counseling support services. The company, which is based in Port Jefferson, will be paid $90 per hour.

• Approved a consultant services contract with Bilinguals, Inc. of Melville, NY for student evaluations.

• Approved a consultant services contract with David Weissberg, MD of Huntington, NY to provide medical services at football games during the 2012 season. He will be paid at the rate of $200 per game.

• Approved a consultant services contract with Dr. Miguel Brzostovski of New York, NY to provide student psychiatric evaluations. He will be paid at the rate of $950 per psychiatric evaluation and report and $100 for a 30 minute consultation with Huntington School District faculty members. Cancelled appointments will be billed at the rate of $450.

• Approved a contract with Developmental Disabilities Institute of Smithtown, NY for the education of two children with handicapped conditions. Summer services will be billed at the interim rate of $6,724 per child. Services for the 2012/13 school year will be billed at the interim rate of $40,342 per child.

• Approved a consultant services contract with Keith Harris, MD of Huntington, NY for student psychiatric evaluations. He will paid at the rate of $825 for an evaluation and report, $500 for any necessary "follow-up" and $475 for cancelled appointments.

• Approved a special education services contract with the Hicksville UFSD for the education of a school age child residing in the Huntington UFSD.

• Approved a consultant services contract with Island Better Hearing of Melville, NY for audiological services for students.

• Approved a consultant services contract with Nirmala Mitra, MD of Huntington, NY for student neurology evaluations. She will be paid $350 per evaluation and report.

• Approved a consultant services agreement with Frantz Moise, MD of Huntington, NY student psychiatric evaluations. He will be paid $800 per evaluation and report.

• Approved a consultant services contract with Nassau-Suffolk Services for the Autistic, Inc. of Hauppauge, NY for behavior consultations, assistive evaluations and parent training. The company will be paid $135 per behavior consultation.

• Approved a services agreement with Reach for the Stars Tutoring, Inc. of Coram for a 50 hour summer school course. The company will be paid at the flat rate of $750 per course.

• Approved a consultant services contract with Howard Reiser, MD of Huntington, NY for student neurology evaluations and reports. He will be paid $250 per evaluation and report.

• Approved a consultant services contract with Dr. Michael Rosenfeld of Melville, NY for student neuropsychological/psycho-educational evaluations. He will be paid $1,825 per evaluation and report.

• Approved a consultant services contract with South Shore Center for Speech, Language and Swallowing Disorders, LLP of Babylon, NY for speech evaluations and consultations. The company will be paid $225 per speech evaluation and report, $150 per hour for staff development and $45 for 30 minutes of attendance at a CSE meeting (in person or via phone) or for a consultation.

• Approved a gifted and talented services contract with the Syosset CSD for the education of a school age resident of the Huntington UFSD.

• Approved a contract with Vanderheyden Hall in Wynantskill, NY for education of a school age resident of the Huntington UFSD. The school will be paid $859.32 per week during the 2012/13 school year. If the child remains enrolled next summer, the district will pay tuition of $954.83 per week.

• Approved a contract with Woodward Children's Center in Freeport, NY for the education of a school age resident of the Huntington UFSD. The fee for the 10-month school year is $37,274 and $6,212 for the six week summer session. The fee for a one-on-one aide is $17,814.60 for the 10-month school year and $2,969.10 for the six week summer session.
