Huntington School Board Notes
Longtime Huntington High School math teacher Joan Lehnert will put her chalk stick down for the last time at the end of June. Huntington School Board members approved the veteran faculty member's request to retire during a public meeting this past Monday night in the Jack Abrams School auditorium.
Trustees also approved the retirement requests of Jefferson School senior clerk typist Barbara Cook Abrahamson, Flower Hill School clerk typist Nancy Sharapata and Southdown School teacher aide Francine Schalik. The retirements are all effective at the close of business on June 30.
Business office secretarial assistant Kim Zellman (approximately July 23 through August 14) and Woodhull School ESL teacher Alice Pancir (March 28 through June 22) were granted leaves of absence.
Trustees also took the following actions:
• Approved Fabiana Pereira to work as a long-term substitute dual language program teacher at Woodhull School, effective April 17 through June 22.
• Approved Melissa Borzumato to work as a long-term substitute special education teacher at Huntington High School, effective February 10 through approximately April 30.
• Authorized Robert Hirten to work as a driver education program instructor. He will be paid $46.74 per hour.
• Approved John Gurrieri and Vincent Naccarato as adult education program instructors. They will be paid $25 per hour.
• Approved additional work related the ELA test scoring for teachers Cindy Palmirotto, Patrice Monks, Tiffanie Kelly, Doreen Ellis, Kathryn Joseph, Dorene Karivalis, Carol Soskil, Mark Helstrom, Paul Esposito, Allison VonVange, Patricia Nowack, Jaime Jerome, Patrice Persichilli and Martha Reilly.
• Approved the district's property tax report card for 2012/13. It will be filed with the New York State Education Department and posted on the district's website.
• Approved a district partnership memorandum of understanding with SUNY College at Old Westbury.
• Approved a license and operating agreement with SCOPE Education Services for before and after-school child care programs for school age children.
• Approved bid awards for athletic supplies, audio-visual supplies, computer/toner supplies, cosmetology supplies, elementary science supplies, family/consumer supplies, fine art supplies, health and trainer supplies, library supplies, photography supplies, physical education supplies, science supplies, technology supplies, elementary teaching aids, music supplies, rocketry, special needs and time and materials skilled trades. The bids were obtained by Educational Data Services.
• Approved a donation from Huntington parent Matt Harris of a wireless intercom set (Telex Radiocom BTR-600C) for use in the Huntington High School athletic program. The equipment is valued at approximately $2,500. Mr. Grackin called it a "very generous donation."
