Huntington School Board Notes

Huntington High School special education teacher Jane Caruso is retiring at the end of the current school year. Huntington School Board members approved Ms. Caruso's request to retire during a public meeting this past Monday evening.

Flower Hill School special education teacher Danielle Nolan was granted a leave of absence, effective April 9 to approximately June 8. J. Taylor Finley Middle School teachers Erica Parris, Brendan McGowan, Jennifer Poach and Kimberly Schiller were all approved for up to four hours of additional work related to scoring the state English Language Arts assessment. They will be compensated at the rate of $48.97 per hour.

Trustees also took the following actions:

• Approved long-term substitute assignments for Finley social studies teacher Robert Barca (through approximately April 16), Jefferson School special education teacher Lindsey Marotta (April 12 through approximately June 4), Southdown School classroom teacher Vincenza Famiglietti-Caruso (approximately March 23 through approximately June 22) and high school social studies Kaitlyn Reyes (February 27 through TBD).

• Approved post-season pay for athletic coaches Kieran Mock, Peter Fusco, Travis Smith, Gilbert Smith, Margaret McConnell and Debra Cheskes.

• Authorized teacher aide Pena Keane to work in the Finley after school program that is funded through a Title III LEP/ELL grant. She will be paid $23.47 per hour.

• Approved high school student Kaycy Saravia-Rivas to serve as a lab assistant during the 2011/12 school year. She will be paid $7.25 per hour.

• Approved Kaitylyn Reyes and Janeen Wasoski to work as adult education program instructors. They will be paid $25 per hour.

• Approved Nancy Wilson as director of the special education summer program and authorized her to work up to nine days at the rate of $656.90 per day or a maximum of $5,912.10.

• Authorized the addition of Ivana Militano and Fabiana Pereira to the district's substitute teacher list. They will be paid at the rate of $90 per day when they work.

• Approved the transfer of $135,145.48 from the district's Employee Benefit Accrued Liability Reserve to the general fund to cover the sick day and vacation allotment payment to former employees Kenneth Boyles, Carlos Claudio, Allan Hendrickson and Paul Rispoli, who retired earlier in the school year.

• Accepted the Federal Single Audit for 2010/11 as performed by the district's external auditors, Cullen & Danowski.

• Accepted the 2011/12 internal auditing report as compiled by Sheehan & Company.

• Approved the extension of a summer transportation contract with Huntington Coach Corp. d/b/a Roy K. Davis Bus, Inc. for 2012. The contract contains a cost adjustment equal to the rise in the applicable consumer price index.

• Approved a supplemental educational services contract with Sylvan Learning Center.

• Approved a bid award for 15,500 copies of the 2012/13 district calendar to Phoenix Business Products in the amount of $3,614.

• Approved a bid award for 650 copies of the 2012/13 mini-calendar to Lotus Events in the amount of $363.

• Accepted donations from the Huntington Ancient Order of Hibernians, Peter Max Corporation and Huntington's Special Education PTA.

• Approved the addition of speech therapist Risa Brachman and music teacher Nicole Lynch to the list of district employees authorized to receive mileage reimbursement for job related travel between buildings.
