Blue Devils Sparkle in LI All-Star Meet
A trio of Huntington High School fencers went undefeated in the Long Island Exceptional Seniors All-Star meet to help lift Suffolk to victory over feisty Nassau.
The inaugural competition played out last week at Half Hollow Hills East High School. Huntington's John Ferraiolo finished 3-0 in epee and Dante Corrocher was 2-0 in saber to help Suffolk roll to a 26-1 win. In the women's competition, Blue Devil great Olivia Weller compiled a 3-0 mark in epee as Suffolk topped Nassau, 18-9.
The competition pitted the best graduating senior fencers representing six high schools in Suffolk against their counterparts from seven Nassau high schools in all three weapons categories. The participating fencers had the best winning percentage among seniors in their respective regular season bouts.
Commack coach Darren Wallach led Suffolk's men's team while the women's squad was coached by Dennis Daly of Half Hollow Hills.
The Huntington fencing program is one of the oldest and most respected on Long Island. The Blue Devils are coached by Alan Kuver, Mike Fabio and Valinda O'Garra.
