Kaitlin Millner Looks Ahead to St. Leo
Kaitlin Millner is graduating this month. The Huntington High School senior's immediate plans for the future are set. She's enjoying her final days in the run-up to the June 24 commencement and recently enjoyed spending time taking a trip down memory lane and reflecting on the past four years.
The teenager is headed to St. Leo University in Florida to study education. She hopes to become a teacher. Earlier this month, Ms. Millner was presented with the Daniel J. Guido Memorial Scholarship in honor of a very special member of Huntington's Class of 2001.
The senior said that when she reflects on her high school experiences and the teachers she's met, several "come to mind right away." For example, Ms. Millner said it's been a "privilege" to know Huntington social studies Lauren Desiderio and English teacher Michael Schwendemann, calling them "outstanding educators."
One particular faculty member especially stands out. "The teacher who had the most profound influence on me was Ms. Jen Bruno," the teenager said. "As a result of a very special relationship we shared I'm encouraged to pursue a career in teaching."
Ms. Millner earned All-League honors with the Blue Devil varsity swimming and diving team. She participated in the after school club program and an assortment of activities.
"I'm glad that I had my group of best friends to share my high school memories with," Ms. Millner said. "Although I'll miss high school, I can't wait to attend St. Leo University in the fall with three of my best friends."
The senior has advice for incoming freshmen. Ms Millner said they should "get involved as much as they can. Between the clubs, sports and other organizations, there's so much to get involved with at Huntington High School, you just have to jump in!"
