Huntington School Board News
Huntington School Board members have accepted the resignations of Flower Hill School special education teacher Kathryn Sequino, Flower Hill teacher aide Ann Jedzrowski and Washington School teacher aide Jillian Zingale. Trustees took the action during a June 6 public meeting.
Alvin White was appointed district director of facilities, effective August 1. He will replace Paul Rispoli who is retiring. Stephany Perez was approved as a long-term substitute teacher in Woodhull School's dual language program. She will be filling in for Cinzia Reeves.
Trustees granted leaves of absence to Christyn Roseto (Washington/special education/ April 26-May 17), Hildi Stanford (Southdown/special education/September 6-November 30), Jacqueline Waltel Plesent (Flower Hill-Southdown/Art/June 1-24 and September 1-January 31, 2012), Jennifer Poach (Finley/special education/June 8-24), Marianne Fiordalisi (Woodhull/reading/May 16-June 30), Kimberly Gilroy (Southdown/special education/2011-12 school year).
Trustees approved retirement requests by Superintendent John J. Finello and high school teacher aide Marie Miller. Teachers Dina Telesco (Woodhull/classroom) and Carol Emmerman (Finley/special education) were approved to return from child care related leaves of absence, effective September 1.
Trustees also took the following actions:
• Approved changes in assignment for Joann Butkiewicz (from 10-month senior clerk typist to 12-month senior clerk typist), William Wright (from lead custodian to Groundskeeper I), Joseph Soto (from night custodian to Groundskeeper I) and Juan Diaz (from Groundskeeper I to Groundskeeper II).
• Approved Robert Hirten to work as a driver education program instructor. He will be paid $46.74 per hour.
• Abolished the positions of director of science and instructional technology K-12 and director of humanities K-12 and created the positions of chairperson of science and instructional technology 7-12 and chairperson of humanities 7-12, effective at the close of business on June 30.
• Approved probationary appointments for Rafaella Montesano (chairperson of science and instructional technology 7-12) and Joseph Leavy (chairperson of humanities 7-12), effective July 1. Their probationary period will run to July 1, 2014.
• Certified the May 17 budget, capital reserve fund referendum and board of education election results.
• Approved a hold harmless agreement with the Town of Huntington for the use of Gold Star Battalion Beach for Southdown School's annual beach party on June 16.
• Accepted a building condition survey completed by the district's architects. It details the physical condition of each of the district's eight buildings. "Paul Rispoli and I have had numerous interactions with the architects about this document and we feel it is an accurate representation of the condition of the buildings," Assistant Superintendent David H. Grackin said. Mr. Rispoli is the district's director of facilities.
• Approved a contract in the amount of $35,000 with Legacy Pathways for differentiated instruction related workshops, site visits and a summer institute.
• Approved a resolution declaring the Huntington Board of Education as the lead agency for the replacement of fuel oil storage tanks at Jefferson, Flower Hill and Woodhull schools. Trustees classified the work as a Type II action under New York State DEC SEQRA regulations.
• Awarded a bid to Acme American for the maintenance of kitchen equipment at a labor cost of $46.50 per hour and 20 percent off the catalog price for materials.
• Awarded a bid for on-site computer support to eSchool Data, LLC with an hour rate of $130.
• Authorized Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church and The Head of the Bay Club to use district facilities. The former will hold a volleyball tournament on July 9 and has asked to use the gym at either Huntington High School, J. Taylor Finley Middle School or Jack Abrams School. The latter plans to use the Finley parking lot when it has "overflow parking situations" for its swim meets.
• Awarded a bid in the amount of $72,460.93 to School Specialty Education for general classroom supplies.
• Approved budget transfers from one code to another to cover the costs associated with math Regents supplies ($200), spring musical instrument repairs ($3,000), Fed Ex invoice ($19.46) and supplies for the transportation department ($501).
• Awarded bids for library supplies to Cascade School Supplies ($6.28) and Highsmith, LLC ($283.47).
• Awarded a bid for office/computer supplies to Staples Advantage ($37,455.16).
• Awarded bids for physical education supplies to Passon's Sports/Sports Supply ($4,343.77), Sportime/School Specialty ($1,739.41), NASCO ($2,264.62), R&R Trophy & Sporting Goods ($109.08), S&S Worldwide, Inc. ($96.74), Cannon Sports, Inc. ($941.30) and Gopher Sport ($15.36).
• Awarded a bid in the amount of $47,566.44 to WB Mason, Co. for copy duplicator supplies.
• Awarded a bid in the amount of $80.94 to School Specialty/Abilitations for special needs supplies.
• Awarded bids for audio-visual supplies to Valiant IMC ($3,220.64), Camcor, Inc. ($193.96), B&H Photo-Video, Inc. ($128.90) and Scott Electric Company ($591.90).
• Awarded bids for elementary science supplies to NASCO ($44.84) and Science Kit, LLC ($8.43).
• Awarded bids for family/consumer science to NASCO ($918.01) and SANE ($441.84).
• Awarded bids for fine art supplies to Cascade School Supplies ($4,279.75), Dick Blick Company ($3,590.25), Sax Arts & Crafts ($21,441.02) and NASCO ($4,248.56).
• Awarded bids for health and trainer supplies to Henry Schein ($4,400.72 and School Health Corp. ($4,170.67).
• Awarded a bid for in-car driver education program instruction to Twin County Driving School, Inc. for $330 per student.
• Awarded a bid for administrative and instructional computer repair services to NPA Computers in the amount of $43,953.
• Awarded a bid for refrigeration repair services to Acme American in the amount of $46.50 per hour and 20 percent off the catalog price for materials.
• Approved vendors for nursing services, including Home Care Therapies (d/b/a Horizon Healthcare, Christian Nursing Registry and Maxim Healthcare Services (d/b/a Maxim Staffing Solutions). The district recently solicited a request for proposals for such services.
• Awarded bids for musical instruments to Southwest Strings ($13,835), NEMC ($8,757), Sam Ash Music ($10,394.25), Northeast Music ($1,595), Woodwind/Brasswind ($775) and Interstate Music ($916).
• Approved a roster of providers to provide home tutoring services, including Syosset Tutoring, Creative Tutoring, Islip Tutoring and Top Grade Tutoring. The rates range from $40-$45 per hour. The district recently solicited a request for proposals for such services.
• Awarded bids for science supplies to RNJ Electronics, Inc. ($12), Sandy Enterprises, Inc. ($32.72), NASCO ($1,088.96), Carolina Biological Supply Co. ($2,842.41), Fisher Science Education, Inc. ($1,749.30), Frey Scientific Co. ($1,209.87), Para Scientific Co. ($112.23), Parco Scientific Co. ($215.01), Sargent-Welch/VWR ($2,499.59), Science Kit, LLC ($2,003.41), Ward's Natural Science ($1,217.60), EAI Education/Eric Armin Inc. ($47.25) and Bio Corp. ($702).
• Authorized the disposal of various equipment items, including six overhead projectors, five pianos and a Hotpoint refrigerator.
• Approved a roster of providers for occupational and physical therapy services, including Metro Therapy, Inc., TEAM Therapy Placement Services, Inc, New York Therapy Placement Services, Inc., Kathy Schutzer, OTR/L, Central Park Therapy, Inc. and Core Medical Group. The district recently solicited a request for proposals for such services.
• Awarded a bid for the printing of the district newsletter to AC Envelope. The cost varies depending on the number of pages and copies and the process used.
