French Honor Society Opens Arms

La Société Honorarire du Français opened its arms in the final weeks of the school year at Huntington high School. A dozen new members were welcomed into the ranks of the French honor Society during a ceremony held in the school cafeteria.

The event marked the largest class of new inductees in the history of Huntington's chapter of the society. The new members include Claire Beach, Conor Byrne, Erica Flor, Lucie Gulino, Andrew Ku, Pauline McGlone, Jennifer Polster, Ana Ruzic, Josh Solomowitz, Eric Sze, Alexis Weitzner and Scout Ziegler.

Mr. Ku and Ms. Polster also performed in the live quartet that entertained a crowd consisting of new and continuing members of the French, Spanish and Italian honor societies and their family members. The three organizations held joint induction ceremonies under the umbrella of the foreign language department.

"Andrew also read an original love poem, which he wrote in French," said Deidre Mayer, a high school French teacher who serves as the French Honor Society's faculty advisor. "He captivated his audience. His love poem won second place in the yearly Long Island Language Teacher's Assn. poetry competition.

The inductees wore elegant attire to the ceremony. Society President Emily Feldman, who is headed to New York University to study public relations in the fall, led the group in reciting the society's pledge. The teenagers were later presented with membership pins and certificates.
