Huntington School Board Notes

Huntington School Board members accepted the resignations of Flower Hill School special education aide Nanette Dezendorf and J. Taylor Finley Middle School clerk typist Suzanne Smyth. Trustees took the actions at their meeting this past Monday night in the Jack Abrams School auditorium.

Trustees granted child care related leaves of absence to teachers Yafit Lucas, Carol Emmerman and Heather Flaherty and K-6 data coordinator Nancy Allard. Washington School special education teacher Alissa German was approved to return from a child care leave of absence effective January 18.

Huntington High School social worker Victor Matarasso (close of business June 30) and Flower Hill School special education teacher Linda Sauer (close of business January 7) had their requests to retire approved by trustees.

Ashley Williams was approved for a probationary special education teaching position at Washington School. She will be eligible for tenure in September 2012. Lauren Baglivi was approved for a probationary guidance counselor position at Huntington High School. She will be eligible for tenure in September 2013.

Trustees approved memorandums of agreement with the clerical and teacher aide bargaining units. Clerical workers will receive a 2 percent increase for the 2009-10 school year and a 1.025 percent increase for the current school year. Teacher aides will get a 2 percent increase for 2009/10 and a 1 percent increase for 2010/11. Both contracts run through June 30, 2011.

• Approved Superintendent John J. Finello's request to attend a January 20th New York State School Boards Assn. conference in Islandia on teacher and principal evaluations.

• Approved Scott Leonard (Woodhull, classroom), Jacqueline Leonard (Flower Hill, speech), Kelli Ann Connors (Woodhull, special education), Melissa Munno (Finley, special education) and Laura Lipow (Woodhull, classroom) to work as long-term leave replacement substitute teachers.

• Approved part-time teaching appointments for Robyn Shear (Southdown/high school art) and Kim Valerio (Finley/high school art). The appointments will run through the end of the school year.

• Approved tenure recommendations for Finley English teacher Marie Riccoboni, effective Jan. 25 and Southdown-Flower Hill ESL teacher Jennifer Glatzer, effective Jan. 28.

• Approved a change in assignment for food service worker Olga Velezquez. She will move from a 4.5 hour per day position at the high school to a five hour position at Flower Hill School.

• William Jackson was approved to work as a district-wide home tutor during the 2010/11 school year. He will be paid $48.97 per hour when he works.

• Approved a consultant services contract with Mary Bly. She will be paid $100 per hour for training workshops and for training and coaching staff members.

• Approved a consultant services contract with Caryl Oris, MD for psychiatric evaluations, staff development, consultations and participation at CSE meetings. She will be compensated at varying rates based upon the specific services provided.

• Authorized Tracey Corcoran and Gabriella Meyer to received mileage reimbursement for their work related travel.

• Authorized the disposal of a 1992 Chevy pick-up truck.

• Approved Mary Ann Sarsfield as a 12-month clerical worker in the business office.

• Approved budget transfers from one account code to another to cover the costs associated with miscellaneous supplies ($1,500), a new FAX machine at Woodhull School ($300), response to intervention conferences for Woodhull School staff members ($500), teacher supplies at Southdown School ($1,500), for postage and supplies related to the special education program at Huntington High School ($773.40), postage and related supplies for special education annual reviews at the high school ($3,000) and paper and office supplies at Woodhull School ($3,000).
