Retired Teacher John Messbauer Passes Away

John J. Messbauer, a retired elementary teacher in the Huntington School District has passed away. He was 91 years old.

After teaching at South Elementary School in Brentwood from 1958-66, Mr. Messbauer began his Huntington career in September 1966 at Village Green Elementary School. He taught fourth grade there until the school closed in June 1973.

After Village Green was shuttered, Mr. Messbauer moved over Woodhull Elementary School in September 1973 and taught sixth grade there until June 1979. He then taught for a year at Robert K. Toaz Junior High School's sixth grade wing and finished his career at Huntington Elementary School, where he taught sixth grade from September 1980 to June 1985.

Mr. Messbauer earned a BA degree in political science at Queens College in 1948 and obtained a master's degree in education at Hofstra University in 1962.

A wake was held at Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home in Hicksville. A funeral was held at St. Pius Church in Plainview.
