Washington Students Honored
for Their Ways

Is there anyone who doesn't enjoy getting a pat on the back? If there is, that person is keeping it pretty quiet. Certainly the students who were recently honored at Washington Primary School for their exemplary behavior and general conduct around the building were more than happy to receive special recognition.

The Washington Ways program recognizes position behavior and encourages students to be safe, respectful and responsible. The youngsters are given various colored tickets by teachers and support staff members whenever they display sterling behavior. Students can earn a ticket at any time, anywhere in the building or even out on the playground or playing fields.

March's red ticket honorees included Mikah Schueller, Malik Cooper, Aimee Roskot, Kenny Galvez, Steven Parada-Rubio, Marques Gaskin, Isabella Busa, Elizaveta Krasnoslobodtseva, Ryan Sirio, Gracie Renkewitz, Jackeline Ramirez-Tzoy, Mackenzie Madison, Daniela Aparicio, Daniel Bonilla, Maggie Imperato, Treshaun Sanders, Mia Nitekman, Alex Grella and Alyssa Sorenson.

The blue ticket classes that were recognized belong to second grade teacher Patricia Maltempo and first grade teacher Denise Novello.

"All of these students were very excited to be recognized," Principal Marsha Neville said. "The response to this program has been encouraging. It's making a difference around the building."

Red tickets are presented to individuals for outstanding behavior outside of classrooms, including in hallways, buses, the playground and cafeteria, etc. At the end of the month, the student in each class with the greatest number of red tickets is recognized with a special certificate. The names of the honorees are read out over the school's public address system.

Entire classes can earn blue tickets for positive group behavior out-of-the-classroom. Blue tickets are also awarded to the two classes within the building with the most tickets overall.

White tickets are awarded weekly for good behaviors and actions in the classroom. White ticket winners are honored with special recognition in their classroom at the end of each week and their names are announced every Monday morning.
