Former Teacher and BOE President Passes Away

Lawrence Swaim, a retired Huntington High School math teacher and former Huntington School Board president, has passed away. He was 83 and had been battling cancer for the past two years.

After coming to Huntington from Ohio, Mr. Swaim taught math and worked as a driver education instructor for 27 years. Following his retirement, he won a seat on the Huntington School Board and was eventually elected president of that body by his fellow trustees.

The stage was one of the loves of Mr. Swaim's life. He enjoyed sitting in the audience as well as appearing in many productions. He was also a master bridge player.

At the time of his passing, Mr. Swaim was residing in Boynton Beach, Florida with his wife, Selma Cohen Swaim. He is survived by his daughter, Pamela, son, David and daughter in law, Lynn, in addition to four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
