Fulton Golf Outing to Fund Multiple Myeloma Research
Whenever the Huntington School District called, John Fulton never said no. The former owner of the Huntington Pennysaver Group, he offered financial and moral support to many causes and was a frequent fan at Blue Devil athletic games, concerts, plays and every other conceivable school event.
When Mr. Fulton passed away on August 27, 2009 at age 55, there was an immediate void in the community that has never quite been filled. To help continue his penchant for charitable giving, Mr. Fulton’s family and friends have organized a golf outing for Monday, June 28 at the Huntington Crescent Club.
A member of Huntington High School’s Class of 1973, Mr. Fulton was felled by multiple myeloma. He left behind his wife Maureen and four children, Meghan, John Jr., Grace and Alexandra.
“Since my father’s death, my family has started the John F. Fulton Foundation,” Alexandra Fulton said. “It is a non-profit organization hoping to raise money for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, which tries to look into more comfortable ways for patients to recover from their treatments and looks into better treatments for cancer patients.”
Mr. Fulton cut a larger than life figure around town. The golf outing is expected to draw many of his friends together again for near and dear to the hearts of the Fulton family.
A full day golf package (18 holes, cart, low net, longest drive and closest to the pin contests) is available for $290. Registration will be held between 11 a.m.-12 noon with a shotgun start kicking off action at 12 noon. Lunch will be served on the course. Cocktails, dinner and an awards ceremony will run from 5-8 p.m. Those wishing to attend only the dinner can do so for $100. All proceeds raised from the outing will be donated to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
A buzz about the golf outing is starting to pick up around town. Mr. Fulton, who loved golf, was very well-liked and a large crowd is expected to attend. There are also various sponsorship opportunities available.
