Trustees Adopt School Calendar for 2010/11

Huntington School Board members voted unanimously this past Monday night to adopt a calendar for the 2010/11 school year. The plan requires students report for the first day of classes on Tues. Sept. 7 and finish on Fri. June 24, 2011.

Under the plan, teachers and staff will report to their buildings for meetings on Thurs. Sept. 2. There are 180 days of instruction with two other days set aside for faculty conferences. Two contingency days are also built into the calendar to address possible school closings due to snow or other emergencies.

Schools will be closed on Sept. 9-10 (Rash Hashanah), Oct. 11 (Columbus Day), Nov. 2 (Election Day/Supt. Conference Day), Nov. 11 (Veterans Day), Nov, 24-26 (Thanksgiving recess), Dec. 24-31 (Winter recess), Jan. 17 (Martin Luther King Day), Feb. 21-25 (Mid-Winter recess), April 18-25 (Spring recess) and May 27-31 (Memorial Day weekend). There are no days off in either March or June.

If a school closing forces the use of a contingency day, schools will be open on May 27. If a second contingency day is needed, schools will also be open on May 31.
