Trustees Appoint New Music and Art Teachers
With summer marching on and the new school year approaching, Huntington School Board members recently appointed two long-term leave replacement substitute music and art teachers.
Pamela Jacovina will teach music at Woodhull School and Devin Auricchio will work as an art teacher at Huntington High School. Ads for the two positions drew a massive response with a combined total of 500 resumes flooding the district. "There was an avalanche of interest," said Joseph A. Giani, assistant superintendent for personnel and general administration.
Ms. Jacovina holds an undergraduate degree in music education from SUNY College at Potsdam where she studied at the renowned Crane School of Music. She worked as a general music teacher at Bayliss Elementary School in Syosset from February-June 2010 and as a high school vocal music director in West Islip in December 2009. This summer is a summer band assistant in West Islip.
The district received 200 applications for the position and 100 candidates were pre-screened prior to school officials conducting 11 formal interviews.
Ms. Auricchio earned a bachelor of fine arts degree in art education at Long Island University in 2008. She completed her state student teaching requirements in the Huntington School District in May 2008.
Ms. Auricchio worked as a leave replacement teacher in East Meadow during the 2008/09 school year and was a substitute teacher in Cold Spring Harbor during 2009/10.
District officials sorted through 300 resumes and interviewed three candidates prior to recommending Ms. Auricchio for appointment.
