The Huntington field hockey team topped visiting Half Hollow Hills, 3-0 behind two goals from Alexandra Kimchy. Emily Arciprete also scored for the Blue Devils. Isabel Sorrentino recorded seven saves in goal.

 

One day earlier, Huntington nipped Commack in overtime, 2-1 when Danielle Cochrane nailed the winner in the strokes session. Liz McGovern scored a second half goal to tie the game in regulation. Sorrentino made seven saves. The Blue Devils 2-0 start has head coach Jillian Seher.

Boys’ Soccer Battles State Champs

The Huntington boys’ soccer team held state champion Comsewogue scoreless during an exciting first half before surrendering two second half goals and losing to the Warriors, 2-0. The Blue Devil defense enjoyed a stellar performance through the first 52 minutes of the game. Goalie E.J. Connell recorded 15 saves.

Bollar Scores but Blue Devils Lose

For the second consecutive game, Calvin Bollar reached the end zone for a touchdown, but the Blue Devil varsity football team lost. Bollar scored on a three-yard run in the first week of the season, which produced a 35-7 defeat at the hands of Islip. He then rushed for a four-yard touchdown last week during a 17-6 loss at Deer Park.

Huntington Girls’ in Overtime

The Huntington girls’ soccer team battled Harborfields to a 2-2 tie in a non-league game. Allison Thompson and Emma Hayes-Hurley scored for the Blue Devils. Angela Bosco added an assist. Lori Messina (eight saves) and Hannah Burnett (seven saves) handled the goalie chores.

 

Two days earlier, the Blue Devils lost in overtime to Hauppauge, 3-1. Bosco put the first point on the scoreboard when she found the net. But, the Eagles then notched three unanswered goals.

Lustberg Clinches Meet

The Huntington girls’ tennis team clinched a 4-3 victory over Kings Park when Sara Lustberg captured her first singles match, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. The Blue Devils also received wins from Olivia Ammirati in third singles, Karly Kocis and Jamie Brown in first doubles and Melanie Grossman and Rebecca Palladino in third doubles.

JV Football on the Move

The Blue Devil junior varsity football team looked like world-beaters this past Monday afternoon as they shutout visiting Deer Park, 33-0. Huntington utilized an impressive passing attack and some devastating open field running. The defensive unit repeatedly came up big and minimized its mistakes. The victory improved the team’s record to 1-0-1.

 

A week earlier sophomore Conor Reilly completed 12-of-19 passes for 131 yards and rushed 12 times for 71 yards and two touchdowns in a season-opening 20-20 tie against visiting Islip. Sophomore Jared Thorbourne caught seven passes for 57 yards and a touchdown. The Blue Devils produced a total offense of 234 yards.

 

Huntington’s defense included impressive performances by freshmen Davon Nelson (11 solo tackles, one caused fumble and one fumble recovery), John Mallouk (six solo tackles) and Josh Long (five solo tackles) and sophomore Taroy Hamilton (five solo tackles and one sac). Sophomore Dan McQuade record two tackles for a loss, caused an Islip fumble, recovered two fumbles and made three solo tackles.

 

Sophomore Joe Straub also enjoyed a big game, recovering a fumble, blocking a punt and making five solo tackles. The Blue Devils compiled 52 solo tackles (six for a loss), four fumble recoveries, two caused fumbles, a blocked punt and an interception. Coaches Ron Wilson and Todd Jamison were pleased with the effort.

Campos Scores Winning Goal

The Huntington boys’ soccer team nipped nearby rival Walt Whitman, 1-0, when Christian Campos scored off a cross from Jesse Michaels early in the first half. The Blue Devil defense then clamped down and made the lone goal hold up. E.J. Connell and Matt Curley combined to record eight saves in the net.

Pugliese Scores!

Emilie Pugliese scored off an assist by Meredith McCourt to give the Huntington girls’ soccer team a 1-0 victory over previously undefeated Bellport. Pugliese’s goal came with about four minutes remaining in the first half. Lori Messina tallied eight saves in goal, including several spectacular diving efforts late in the game.

Boys’ Volleyball Tops Central Islip

John McCarthy had 13 kills to lead the Huntington boys’ volleyball team over host Central Islip, 25-12, 20-25, 29-27, 27-25. Max Smoller contributed 24 assists and David Stillman added five aces.
