Huntington New Teacher Profiles
Heather Barfuss has been appointed as a probationary special education teacher at Jack Abrams Intermediate School. She earned a BA degree in health and human services and a BS degree in business administration in Feb. 2003 at SUNY Buffalo and obtained a Master’s degree in childhood education at Molloy College in May 2006.
Ms. Barfuss worked as a leave replacement special education teacher last year at Jack Abrams School. She has also served as the recreation coordinator of the Family Service League’s FAST program and as a leave replacement sixth grade teacher at Huntington Intermediate School. She was a substitute teacher in Williamsville, NY and completed her student teaching requirements in the Huntington School District.
District officials reviewed eight applications and interviewed two candidates before recommending Ms. Barfuss for appointment. She will be eligible for tenure on Sept. 1, 2011.
Jessie Brennan
Jessie Brennan has been appointed as a probationary special education teacher at Southdown Primary School. She holds a BA degree in child study from St. Joseph’s College in Patchogue and is pursuing a graduate degree in literacy pre-K-12 at Touro College.
Ms. Brennan has been a leave replacement reading teacher at Southdown School since Nov. 2007. She has also worked as a leave replacement second grade teacher at Jefferson School and a substitute teacher in the Longwood, William Floyd and Eastport-South Manor school districts.
District officials reviewed five applications and interviewed all five candidates prior to recommending Ms. Brennan for appointment. She will be eligible for tenure on Sept. 1, 2012.
Kathryn Sequino
Kathryn Sequino has been appointed as a long-term substitute speech teacher at Washington Primary School. She will serve through approximately Jan. 29, 2010. She earned a BA degree in speech pathology from Loyola College in May 2007 and a Master’s degree in speech pathology from Hofstra University in May 2009.
Ms. Sequino has worked as a K-12 special education teacher assistant at the Center for Developmental Disabilities in Woodbury during the summer of 2006, 2007 and 2008.
District officials reviewed four resumes and interviewed all four candidates prior to recommending Ms. Sequino for appointment.
Denise Novello
Denise Novello has been appointed as a long-term substitute classroom teacher at Jefferson Primary School. She will serve through approximately Dec. 1, 2009. She obtained a BS degree in economics at SUNY College at Cortland in May 1988 and a Master’s degree in elementary education at Long Island University-C.W. Post College in Dec. 1993. She earned an initial certificate for students with disabilities/special education at Dowling College in May 2008.
Ms. Novello has worked as a leave replacement special education teacher at Jefferson School, as a first grade 1:1 teacher in Commack, as a leave replacement first and second grade teacher in Commack and as a substitute teacher in Commack.
District officials reviewed 25 resumes and interviewed eight candidates before recommending Ms. Novello for appointment.
Carolyn Naldi
Carolyn Naldi has been appointed as a long-term substitute special education teacher at Jack Abrams Intermediate School. She will work through approximately Jan. 29, 2010. Ms. Naldi obtained a BA degree in childhood education at Long Island University in Dec. 2006.
Ms. Naldi has worked in Huntington as a long-term substitute fourth grade teacher since Dec. 2007. She completed her student teaching requirements in the Huntington School District. She has also worked as a one-on-one aide at the AHRC Center for Autism and was on the staff of Camp Shadow in the summer of 2006.
Ashley Williams
Ashley Williams has been appointed as a long-term substitute special education teacher at Flower Hill Primary School. She will work through approximately Jan. 29, 2010. Ms. Williams graduated from St. Joseph’s College in May 2009 with a BA degree in child study.
Ms. Williams worked in Huntington’s summer special education program and previously worked in the summer program offered by the Plainview-Old Bethpage School District for students with disabilities.
District officials reviewed two applications and interviewed both applicants before recommending Ms. Williams for appointment.
