Huntington School Board Notes

 

Special education teacher Donna Nugent was approved by Huntington School Board members to serve as the administrator of Huntington High School’s alternative program, which offers classes during late afternoon/early evening hours. Ms. Nugent, who is certified as an administrator, will earn $57.43 per hour for her work as administrator during the 2009/10 school year.

 

Trustees also took the following actions at their meeting on August 24:

 

• Authorized teachers Carolyn Naldi, Joan Castles, Kimberly Murray, Donna O’Shaughnessey and Jennifer Irolino to participate in corrective reading training and to be compensated at the contractual rate of $200 each for the day, the cost of which is funded through a special education grant.
• Approved a consultant services agreement with Nassau-Suffolk Services for Autism – The Martin C. Barell School for in-home teaching and behavioral support at a rate of $75 per hour
• Authorized teachers Carolyn Naldi, Joan Castles and Ashley Williams to participate in Horizons reading program training and to be compensated at the contractual rate of $200 each for the day, the cost of which is funded through a special education grant.
• Approved a consultant services contract with Dr. Nirmala Mitra for neurological evaluations of students at a rate of $325 per evaluation.
• Approved Mary Bly as “program coach” of the corrective and Horizons reading program. She will be compensated at the rate of $557.98 per day for not more than ten days during the 2009/10 school year.
• Approved a consultant services contract with Professionals for Learning for parent consultation and training at a rate of $85 per hour.
• Approved changes in assignments (hours) for special education program summer aides Frances Orelli, Tanya Roberts, Paula Kavanaugh, Allison Moller, Monica McReynolds and Yvonne DaCosta and food service worker Diane Chaney. Their salaries are funded by a special education grant.
• Approved a consultant services contract with Adults & Children with Learning Disabilities for educational services at a rate of $85 per hour.
• Approved salary schedule changes for 17 teachers who completed graduate level coursework.
• Approved Joanne Gurrieri (J. Taylor Finley Middle School), Eileen D’Angelis (Huntington High School), Karen Behrman (Woodhull School) and Elizabeth Scannello (Jack Abrams School) to serve as central treasurers in their respective buildings. They will be paid stipends ranging from $514 to $2,057 for this part-time work.
• Authorized Regina Askerberg to work as a secretary for the adult education program at a rate of pay of $17.79 per hour. Anna Naccarato was approved as the substitute secretary. She will be paid $19.93 per hour when her services are needed.
