Finley Student Council Ready for Action
The student council at J. Taylor Finley Middle School has always been known as an active and high energy group. This year’s edition is expected to continue that same tradition. The event calendar includes numerous events tied to school spirit, social activities and community service.
Social studies teacher Kimberly Finneran and music teacher Frank Battista serve as co-advisors to the student council, which is led by Katherine Gerdes (president), Natalie Lanzisero (vice-president), Cynthia Gowani (secretary) and Brian J. McConnell (treasurer).
“The student council officers are elected by their peers in an election run in June of the previous school year,” Principal John Amato explained. “The officers are well-respected among their peers and are generally looked upon as leaders both in and out of the classroom. They conduct the morning announcements at Finley everyday. They also rally the students when we have school-wide functions such as food drives, clothes drives, dances, and fundraisers. They get some help from delegates elected from delegates elected from each homeroom. The council is an active group.”
