1953 Grad Passes Away

Jane Gates Pearl, a 1953 graduate of Huntington High School, has passed away at age 74 at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington, Vermont surrounded by her loving family. She enjoyed a long career as an elementary school teacher in the Peru Central School District, working on the Plattsburgh Air Force Base until retiring 15 years ago after 25 years in the classroom.

Mrs. Pearl leaves behind her husband of 51 years, four daughters and a son. She led an interesting life, including notable passions for bridge, painting, gardening, sewing, arts and crafts, golf, swimming and traveling. The Huntington alum even coached a high school swim team.

One friend who swam with Mrs. Pearl at the local YMCA said “she was a sincerely nice person who radiated with love for her husband and family. She was kind, encouraging and inspiring, and she will be greatly missed.”

Following a funeral Mass at St. John’s Church in Plattsburgh, Mrs. Pearl was interred at Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Keeping up with Camille Tedeschi

This past summer Huntington High School social studies teacher Camille Tedeschi paid a visit to an exhibit on Afghanistan at the Metropolitan Museum. She enjoyed it and decided it would be a valuable experience if her AP World History could see it, too. But, she couldn’t take the teenagers on a field trip so early in the year, but they went on their own for extra credit. The students “loved it,” Ms. Tedeschi said.

The summer was also a time for Ms. Tedeschi to study contemporary Chinese life through photographs at the China Institute and take graduate coursework. She is working toward a master’s degree in library science and attended a storytelling class given by a griot from West Africa.
