Huntington Science Awards Presented at Ceremony
Several dozen top Huntington High School students were presented with awards by science department faculty members during a ceremony late last month in the School Heritage Museum.
David Casamento, district director of science, presented the St. John’s University Women in Science Award to Brielle Blatt, Stephanie Chang, Carolyn Fante, Kerry Hicks, Alexandra Martinolich, Jane Mitchell and Bethany Smith.
Mr. Casamento also presented the the Rensselaer Scholarship and Medal Award to Anthony Kouttron and the Bausch & Lomb Scholarship to Alanna Tieman.
Teacher Dame Forbes presented an award to Chemistry students Lauren Corcoran, Kianna Freitag, Daniel McGale and Andrew Sheerin along with awards to Honors Chemistry students Philip Cadorette, Andrew Ku and Justin Loscalzo, Environmental Chemistry student Lindsay Larkin and AP Chemistry student Rebecca Silverman.
Teacher Deborah Beck presented awards to Living Environment students Brittany Robinson-Smikle and Saveendra Wijebandara, Living Environment Honors students Melvin Cortes, Erik Marcinik and Mary-Liz O’Neil, AP Biology students Adam Cerini and Carolyn Fante, Animal Behavior students Brittany Pucci-Schmitz and Kathryn Schmitz, ESL Intro to Living Environment student Luis Cordero-Salazar and Marine Ecology student Warren Buchholtz.
Teacher Craig McKee presented awards to Astronomy student Elaine Long and Earth Science students Kerry Hicks, Christopher Keddell and Amanda Wilson. Teacher Tom Masone presented awards to students Luke Mazzotta (Physics), Lauren Campbell and Nicholas Schoen (Honors Physics) and Stephanie Change (AP Physics). Teacher Marguerite Montefusco presented awards to Forensic Science students Dillon Blatt and Tiffany Sorensen and Advanced Forensic student Sarah Kulchinsky.
Alanna Tieman garnered the American Chemical Society Award and Tatiana DiPaola was honored by the American Association of University Women. Adam Cerini was recognized for his efforts in the NYDEC/NYWEA poster contest.
“This was a great year for science study in Huntington,” Superintendent John J. Finello said. “Our students really excelled.”
