Niko Rechul Graduates; Hires Football Agent
Huntington High School alum Niko Rechul is quite busy, to say the least. He graduated from Syracuse University last month and now he’s hired an agent to help him pursue a contract with a professional football team.
Rechul, a member of Huntington’s Class of 2005, landed the services of Jerry Tierney, a Pennsylvania based agent creating a highlight film of the former Blue Devil while he was kicking for the Orangemen. The CD will be sent to all NFL and Canadian Football League teams.
“I also registered for the new league called the UFL (United Football League), which is coming this year,” Rechul said. “So, hopefully I will get a shot somewhere this year, and if things don’t work out this year, I will be sure to keep it up for the following years. It was very important that I found an agent so that I can at least get a look by someone.”
Last Wednesday, Rechul flew to Minnesota “for a pro-development kicking camp where select kickers come and are trained and looked out by Gary Zauner, a well-known pro kicking coach who has trained 13 Pro Bowl kickers,” he said. “Pretty much going to see him and kicking well gives you a good word from a trusted special teams coach.”
Rechul, who was born in Munich, West Germany, was a four year Blue Devil soccer player who captained the team as a junior and senior and was twice named all-League and all-County. As a senior on the Huntington soccer team, he tallied eight goals and 15 assists and had 17 goals and 25 assists during his high school career. He also played lacrosse and tennis, wrestled and ran indoor track, competing in the 400m run. He served as the varsity club president and was a member of the Math Honor Society.
