Trustees Take Dozens of Actions
Veteran Huntington High School special education teacher Patricia Corcoran has had her request to retire approved by the Huntington School Board, effective June 30, 2009. Trustees also approved the resignations of teacher aides Latisha Passmore, Diana Blaisdell and Kathleen Francom.
Trustees approved full-time long-term substitute assignments for teachers Carly Fiorelli (English, Finley) and Kerri Branca (special education, Flower Hill) and security guard Steven Muller (high school). Extra-duty assignments were approved for Jason Giachetti (percussion advisor, winter/spring), Amy Gagnon (color guard advisor, winter/spring) and Robert Gilmor (Natural Helpers club advisor at Huntington High School).
Maryanne Tizol was appointed to a full-time clerical position in the high school foreign language department office. Gricelda Mejia was hired part-time as a food service worker at the high school. Blue Devil coaching staff members Jillian Talleur, Kathleen Wright, Lynn Perzeszty and Margaret McConnell, were each approved to receive fall post-season pay.
Trustees also took the following actions:
- Authorized Superintendent John J. Finello to attend an Albany, NY conference sponsored by The Council of School Superintendents on “Leading Through Tough Times: The Budget Survival Guide for Schools and Kids.”
- Authorized two budget transfers from one account code to another to cover the costs associated with the purchase of wood for J. Taylor Finley Middle School technology classes ($796) and special instructional programs for elementary grade level students provided by Mad Science and the New York Hall of Science ($4,700).
- Authorized the disposal of obsolete computer equipment.
- Approved a contract with Woodmere-based Mad Science of Long Island in the amount of $7,375 to perform four assemblies and 33 workshops for elementary grade level students.
- Approved a change order related to the replacement of the underground oil storage tanks at Southdown and Washington primary schools in the amount of $1,800. This was an allowance built into the contract. The change reduced the value of the contract to $320,200.
- Authorized Paul Caleca, James Graber, Kenneth Gilbert, Noreen Hernandez, Steven Lashin and Joseph Cohen to serve as Saturday detention supervisors on an as-needed basis at a rate of pay of $47.07 per hour.
- Authorized teachers Amanda Meyer, Monica Racz, Roseann Brienza, Anna Fabela, Kenneth Krummenacker, Peter Crugnale, Lauren Thomas, Jordan Gould, Anthony Troffa and Jean Czerniawski to work in the after school RCT and Regents prep programs. They will be paid at the rate of $47.07 per hour. A total of 212 hours of sessions will be provided, the cost of which will be funded by a Title I grant.
- Authorized Linda Leake to archive files related to student support services during the 2008/09 school year. She will be paid at a rate of $10.50 per hour.
- Approved a change in the probationary period of special education teacher Jennifer Giglio. It will now run from Jan. 7 2009 to Jan. 7, 2012.
- Adjusted Rosemary Fiorentino’s clerical worker assignment to 12-month senior clerk typist/middle school asst. principal at J. Taylor Finley Middle School and Ruth Peretz’s title from 10-month clerk typist/attendance to 10-month sr. clerk typist-middle school/guidance.
- Adjusted the duration of the long-term substitute teacher assignments of Joyce Breisacher (special education, high school), Katherine Canales (music, Jack Abrams and Washington), Kerri Branca (special education, Washington/Flower Hill) and Katerina Voutsinas (classroom, Flower Hill).
- Approved the addition of Carly Fiorelli, John Worth, Mark Rappa, Meghan Jost, Elizabeth Gallo, Ilyssa Pollack, Melissa Zinker, Kate Forsten, Stephanie Horowitz Mulry, Heather Little, Michael Leavitt, Jillian Fournier and Gary Beck to the substitute teacher list. Also approved adding Kristen Orsini, Barbara Gross, Kelly Doyle and Nancy McArthur to the list of substitute aides and monitors.
