Huntington School Board Notes
Huntington School Board members have approved a change order related to a project involving the removal and replacement of hallway lockers at Huntington High School. The order “will allow us to upgrade the locker bottom shelf construction to a heavier gauge steel,” Assistant Superintendent David H. Grackin said.
The work is part of a larger project list which, when bids are taken as a whole, came in about $70,000 under budget. The locker change order amounts to $6,090.01. A total of 1,489 top tier dividers/bottoms will be upgraded in thickness at a cost of 4.09 per each.
The much thicker shelf is meant to address concerns about deformation of the 15’ x 15’ panel from potential abuse. Nickerson Corp. of Bay Shore will handle the project.
Trustees also approved leaves of absence for teachers Danielle Walsh (compensatory math, Jack Abrams School), Victoria Creighton (classroom, Washington School), Christina Droskoski (reading, Woodhull School), Nicole Lynch (music, Jack Abrams School), Amy Goldberg (English, Huntington High School), Karen Swanson (reading, Woodhull), Nadine Araoz (ESL, Flower Hill/Woodhull), Kelly Trites (special education, Woodhull) and Margaret Dukoff (reading, Southdown).
Teachers Tara Adams (music, Jack Abrams School), Christa Schlosser (reading, Southdown School), AnneMarie Faulkner (reading, Southdown School), Stacey Byrnes (science, Huntington High School) and Michelle Audia (classroom, Washington School) were all authorized to return from leaves of absence, effective Sept. 1.
