New Huntington Teachers Hired


At the last meeting of the Huntington School Board, trustees appointed three new teachers, including two long-term substitutes and one part-time faculty member.

 

The new teachers include:

Heather Little

Heather Little was appointed a part-time music teacher at Jefferson and Washington primary schools through the end of the school year.  She earned her undergraduate degree in music last month at Long Island University – C. W. Post College.

 

Ms. Little has performed at various Long Island restaurants and Jazz clubs.  She completed her student teaching requirements last fall at Paumanok Elementary School and Half Hollow Hills High School East.

 

District officials reviewed ten applications and conducted two interviews before recommending Ms. Little for appointment.

Dana Aboulafia

Dana Aboulafia was appointed a long-term substitute speech teacher at Woodhull and Jack Abrams intermediate schools.  She obtained a B.A. degree in science in May 2006 at James Madison University and earned a Master’s degree in speech in August 2008 at Hofstra University.

 

Ms. Aboulafia has worked as Keister Elementary School in Harisonburg, VA as an assistant to the teacher (Sept. 2004 to Jan. 2005), at James Madison University, also in Harisonburg, as an assistant to the speech language pathologist (Feb. to April 2006) and at Hofstra University as a clinician (Sept. 2006 to August 2007).

 

District officials reviewed eleven applications and conducted six interviews before recommending Ms. Aboulafia for appointment.

Virginia Stamatakis

Virginia Stamatakis was appointed a long-term substitute ESL teacher at Flower Hill and Woodhull schools.  She holds a B.A. degree in literature from SUNY-Stony Brook (1988) and a Master’s degree in education from Queens College (1993).

 

Ms. Stamatakis has worked in numerous elementary schools, at high schools in Copiague and Herricks and as an adjunct professor at Suffolk Community College, Queens College and SUNY Stony Brook, where she also served as director of the listening center.  She has also taught on the middle school level.

 

District officials reviewed four resumes and conducted one interview before recommending Ms. Stamatakis for appointment.
