Marino Wins Huntington Foundation Artwork Competition

The cover of this year’s journal for the Huntington Foundation’s annual Reach for the Stars Gala was adorned with a stunning piece of work created by high school Advanced Placement art student Lisa Marino.  The work was among an exceptional array of entries in a spirited competition for top honors.

Ms. Marino’s work is a colorful depiction of a stone bridge arching over Heckscher Park’s pond and adjoining vegetation. AP art students Alyssa Fennington and Sam Widerman were honored as runners-up in the journal artwork competition.  Ms. Fennington’s work is of a nautical scene from Huntington Harbor while Mr. Widerman’s is of downtown Huntington Village.

All three pieces recognized by the Foundation are acrylic on canvas. The 18 AP students who submitted entries are all members of teacher Kristin Singer’s class.  In addition to the top three finishers, participants in the competition included Michelle Byrne, Itzel Cedillo-Rosas, Kelsey Cosgrove, Sanders Foulke, Kirsten Freiman, Alex Giammarino, Rhiccia Gomez, Olivia Johnson, Connor Leek, Jasmin Morales, Lauren Narine, Tara Narine, Theresa Spohrer, Clare Tonks and Lauren Visbal.

The Huntington Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of the district’s schools.  Since parents created it in 1993, the Foundation has funded nearly three-quarters of a million dollars worth of educator-generated grants.
