Huntington School Briefs
The Huntington School Board approved a memorandum of agreement with the Associated Teachers of Huntington to rollover the current teacher’s contract for two additional years. Teachers ratified the deal last week by a vote of 358-17.
The contract, which is retroactive to July 1, will run through June 30, 2011. It calls for raises of two percent in each of the two years. The same percentage will be applied to stipends for positions listed in all auxiliary tables.
Woodhull Students Exceed Goal
The two fifth grade dual language classes at Woodhull Intermediate School shattered their goal of collecting 100 items during a food drive. The youngsters came close to reaching 150 such items and ultimately chose to donate the goods to Haven House, the Family Service League and the Helping Hand Rescue Mission.
The students from teachers Debra Collins’ and Martha Renderos’ classes worked as a team to prepare for the delivery. “One group of students separated the food into meals while the other groups wrote cards, and decorated the boxes,” Ms. Collins said. “All 41 students worked together cooperatively. They really enjoyed helping out the community.”
