Finley Boys’ Lax is Unbeatable
The J. Taylor Finley Middle boys’ lacrosse team dominated all ten of its opponents, finishing with a perfect 10-0 record this past spring. The squad was packed with skilled players who seem well on their way to successful scholastic careers.
The Falcons, coached by Rick Eriksen and Vincent Tannazzo, were captained by Nicholas Buckley, Tyler Greenhill and Christopher Schoen. The 25-man team featured a potent offense and an aggressive defense.
Finley’s “A” team defense consisted of Buckley, Mark Curley and Larry McGill. Eriksen said the group was “aggressive [and] cleared the ball well.” Greenhill proved to be a formidable goalie. Eriksen said Greenhill is “very talented” and “had a great season.”
Midfielders Josh Long, John Vanderschuyt, Pat Reilly and Matt Corcoran were “very quick, good stick handlers [and] won most face-offs,” Eriksen said. The group also scored their fair share of goals.
The “A” team attack unit of Schoen, Pat Wolber and John Mallouk displayed hustle, stick work and an uncanny ability to put the ball between the posts.
Finley’s “B” team was also a force to be reckoned with. Joe Catalano, goalie Todd Colvin, defensemen John Cimetta, Michael Harlan, Kyle Dorward, Joe Catalano and Jordan Lowe, midfielders Devon Nelson, Mike Hefferin, Baxter Corwin and Kiernan McGovern and the attack unit of Mike Alibini, Pete Goldsmith, Dave Casey and Amaan Rana were formidable.
Will Finley’s perfect team win a high school championship before the players graduate? Well, that’s another story that has yet to be written. But, seeing what the group accomplished this past spring, its an ending that is certainly more than possible.
