Huntington New Teacher Profiles


Peter Edwards has been appointed a long-term substitute teacher at Washington Primary School through Nov. 21. He earned an A.A. degree at Suffolk Community College in June 2005 and obtained a B.A. in education at St. Joseph’s College in May 2007.

 

Mr. Edwards worked last year in the Eastport-South Manor school district as a K-1st grade teacher assistant and leave replacement special education teacher.

 

District officials reviewed 25 applications and conducted eight interviews before recommending Mr. Edwards for appointment.



Philip Wayne has been appointed a part-time social studies teacher at J. Taylor Finley Middle School and Huntington High School. He graduated in 2006 from the University of Delaware with a B.A. degree in political science and obtained a Master’s degree in education at Loyola College earlier this year.



Christopher Hender has been appointed a probationary special education teacher at Woodhull Intermediate School. He graduated from St. Joseph’s College in 2007 with a B.A. degree in child study.

 

Mr. Hender was a fifth grade leave replacement special education teacher last year at Woodhull from Feb. 13 through the end of the school year.



Rosario Lorenzana has been appointed a probationary bilingual science teacher at Huntington High School. She holds a B.S. degree in science/biology from Molloy College (1991), a Master’s degree in science from Queens College (2000) and state administrative certification from the College of Saint Rose (2003).

 

Prior to coming to Huntington, Ms. Lorenzana worked at Flushing High School as a science teacher (1992-98) and dean of students (1998-00) at Seaford Avenue School as an Earth science and creative writing teacher (2000-01) and as a science teacher at Westbury High School (2001-2006).

 

District officials reviewed 19 applications and conducted five interviews prior to recommending Ms. Lorenzana for appointment.



Gina Trigian-Molvaut has been appointed a part-time foreign language teacher at J. Taylor Finley Middle School. She graduated from Stony Brook University with a B.A. degree in French/art in 1986 and a M.A. degree in French language and literature in 1990. She earned a Ph.D. at New York University in 2001 in French language and literature. She also earned an M.A. (I) in British literature at Nourelle Sorbonne in Paris.

 

Prior to coming to Huntington, Ms. Trigian-Molvaut worked as an ESL teacher in the Half Hollow Hills continuing education program (1986), substitute teacher in various districts (1986-87), French teaching assistant at Stony Brook University (1988-90), French tutor for CAS Tutoring Service at NYU (1992-93), French graduate assistant at NYU (1990-93, 94-95), French adjunct professor at the Borough of Manhattan Community College (Fall 1994), French instructor at NYU (1996-98), professor of 19th century literature at NYU in Paris (Spring 2000), ESL workshops at Cours et Ateliers in Livry-Gargan, France (2005-07), research project director in the BU Paris internship program in Paris (Spring 2007), Berlitz ESL teacher for professionals, La Defense, Paris (2002-07) and as a substitute teacher in the Commack school district (Dec. 2007 to June 2008).

 

District officials reviewed 12 applications and interviewed eight candidates before recommending Ms. Trigian-Molvaut for appointment.



 

Lauren Friedrich has been appointed a leave replacement compensatory math teacher at Jack Abrams Intermediate School through June 30, 2009. She earned undergraduate (2002, marketing/management) and graduate (2006, childhood education) degrees at Long Island University.

 

Ms. Friedrich was a long-term substitute compensatory math teacher in Huntington from February to June 2007. She has also worked in East Rockaway as a permanent substitute and tutor of math, science, social studies and English language arts and in the Oceanside school district as a math teacher assistant.
