Trustees Approve Band Field Trip among Dozens of Actions

Here come the Blue Devils.  At their meeting this past Monday night, Huntington School Board members approved an overnight field trip for the Huntington High School marching band to attend the New York State Field Band Conference Championship in Syracuse later this month.

Participants will depart on Sat. Oct. 25 at 6 a.m. and return on Mon. Oct. 27 at 3 p.m.  About 120 students are expected to make the journey along with 13 staff members and a dozen other chaperones.

The trip will cost approximately $185 per student.  Fundraising opportunities are being provided.  Students have been rehearsing during their band period at the end of the school day as well as after school, at night and on weekends.  The marching band is in the midst of its fall competitive schedule and the state championship serves as a culminating activity.

Trustees also authorized district participation in an inter-municipal bidding venture with the Town of Huntington for sand, grit, gravel and oversize stone, welding and plasma cutting services and soil boring and soil testing.

Trustees accepted the resignation of Leslie Sullivan, a teacher aide at Jack Abrams Intermediate School, effective Sept. 23.  Ana Harris was hired to fill the position, effective Oct. 7.  Huntington High School teacher aide Tania White was granted a leave of absence from Oct. 6 to Nov. 14.
