Pavelka Brothers Reunite at Schuylkill River
As brothers, Alex and Ryan Pavelka share many things in common, including the Blue Devil crew team. Alex graduated from Huntington High School last June and is now attending SUNY Maritime College and Ryan is a high school sophomore, but both were back on the same body of water last weekend.
The brothers were participants with their respective teams in regattas held on Philadelphia’s Schuylkill River. During his years with the Blue Devils, Alex often medaled during competitions. Now it’s Ryan’s turn and he hasn’t disappointed anyone. In fact, last Sunday he joined with teammate Joey West to finish second in the men’s high school double in the Bill Braxton Memorial Regatta.
Alex has been impressive this fall on the SUNY Maritime College squad. Last Saturday he took second place in the men’s college freshman four with coxswain event at the Frostbite Regatta.
The Blue Devil crew team has long been a family affair for many athletes. That tradition continues and so does the program’s reputation as one of the best along the Eastern seaboard.
