Rehearsals Underway for Crazy for You

The cast list has been posted, the readings have begun and the stage is cleared every afternoon as the cast of Crazy for You readies themselves to sing and dance their way into the hearts of theatre lovers.

The show is the spring musical production of the Huntington High School drama club.  Evening performances are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, April 4-5 at 8 p.m.  A matinee is also being considered.  Tickets priced at $5 for senior citizens, students and staff and $10 for general admission will be available at the door.

Drama club members, under the direction of faculty advisor Michael Schwendemann, are hoping to make this a show to remember.  The show, which is based on a new book by Ken Ludwig, features music and lyrics by George and Ira Gershwin and has been an audience favorite for many years.

According to the website of Tams-Witmark, the company that owns the rights to the show, “Crazy for You is the story of Bobby Child, a well-to-do 1930's playboy, whose dream in life is to dance. And despite the serious efforts of his mother and soon-to-be-ex-fiancee, Bobby achieves his dream! Memorable Gershwin tunes include I Can't Be Bothered Now, Bidin' My Time, I Got Rhythm, Naughty Baby, They Can't Take That Away from Me, But Not for Me, Nice Work if You Can Get It, Embraceable You and Someone to Watch Over Me. It's a high energy comedy which includes mistaken identity, plot twists, fabulous dance numbers and classic Gershwin music.”

The Huntington cast includes Jeffrey Bishop, Renna Wirchin, Jonah Kramer, Lauren DiPasquala, Rebecca Silverman Rebecca Deegan, Lena Freed, Olivia Wyrick, Cassidhe Lofaso, Colleen Tuebner, Katie Getz, Dayna Reyes, Kierah Thompson, Anna Harris, Mercury Caronia, Kevin Freeman, Richard Gray, Sammy Sainthil, Leslie Stephen, Samson Widerman, Kirsten Freiman, Cara Mohlenhoff, Allie Kiley, Danielle Cerezo, Cody Jacobs, Jenn Szilagy, Mary-Liz O’Neill, Jacob Goldsztejn, Jon Noyes, Caitlin Etri and Tommy Monks.

Dozens of other Huntington students are also involved in the production, covering the many varied roles required in a live production.  “All of us are excited and everyone is working hard to make it a great show,” Mr. Schwendemann said.
