Huntington School Board Notes


New York State Senator Carl Marcellino arranged for the district to receive a $60,000 grant to cover the cost of the Huntington School District’s 2007 elementary summer reading program.  The district was officially notified in a letter from the State Education Department dated Feb. 14.



Huntington School Board members approved requests for leaves of absence for science teacher Stacey Byrnes and English teacher Amy Goldberg for the entire 2008-09 school year.



Huntington High School guidance counselor Victoria Maisano has resigned her position effective June 30.  Trustees accepted the resignations of Huntington High School aides Sevda Cabas and Mirella Ortiz and payroll clerical worker Michele Kentros.



Tracey Adler, Kimberly Belkin, Susan Bernard-Handler, Valerie Byrne, Nana Formichella, Flavia Gorini, Leigh Johnson, Valerie Taylor and Caitlin Thompson were added to the district’s instructional substitute list.  They will be paid $90 per diem on an as-needed basis.



Trustees authorized additional work for Giovanni Mendez (approximately four hours to complete an evaluation report) and Victor Matarasso (approximately two hours to complete a social history) at the rate of $45.77 per hour.

 

Science teachers Joseph Cohen, Alan Kupferman, Edward Florez, Lori Pyzocha, Thomas Masone and Carl Maltempi were approved for additional work of 2.5 hours each, respectively, related to the high school Science Trilogy Night at the rate of $45.77 per hour.



Veronica Quinlan (math) and DonnaMarie O’Shaughnessy (English language arts) were approved to work as after school educators in the Flower Hill Primary School state test preparation program for two and three hours per week, respectively, on an as-needed basis.  They will be paid a rate of $45.77 per hour.



Mardella Edwards was hired provisional appointment as an account clerk typist.  She replaces Elizabeth Voight.

 

Huntington High School aide Stephanie Moore was authorized to return from a leave of absence, effective April 2.



Kathryn Adamcewicz (nurse), Anne Bershatsky (aide) and Mark Zimmer (security) were added to the district’s non-instructional substitute list.



 

Trustees approved a change order in the amount of $908.10 related to the auditorium roof replacement project at Huntington High School.  The figure reflects a reduction in the final cost of the work.



 

Bids were awarded to Matrix Digital Solutions (various high school related booklets, cards, notices and the literary magazine Et Cetera), Tobay Printing Co. (The Dispatch student newspaper and the district’s transportation newspaper) and Almat Forms & Systems (district budget notice).

 

A bid was also awarded to EAI Education for TI84 graphing calculators and TI30X calculators.  The graphing calculators will cost $966.20 for a 10-pack and the regular calculators will go for $102.40 for each 10-pack.



 

Special education teachers Peri Alfano, Kim Betz, Catherine Fede, Debra Foster, Alissa German, Susanne Giuliani, Sarah Metcalf, Danielle Nolan, Christyn Roseto, Jennifer Stucchio, Patricia Sweeney, Joanne Taormina, Renee Troffa and Mary Velez were authorized to receive mileage reimbursement for district related travel at the IRS approved per-mile rate.



Trustees approved a budget transfer request in the amount of $11,000 to cover maintenance supplies related to materials needed for repairs to the heating systems at five separate district locations as mandated by the State Education Department.

 

A second transfer in the amount of $7,000 was also approved to cover additional site licenses for computer software.
