School Board Approves Personnel Moves
At its last meeting of the school year, the Huntington School Board approved dozens of personnel moves involving teachers, administrators and non-instructional support staff.
Trustees gave probationary appointments to Arlette Hall-Connolly (Flower Hill bilingual classroom), James Creighton (high school physical education), Casey Goldberg (high school guidance counselor), Keith Mattis (high school math) and Lauren Thomas (high school social studies). Each of the teachers except for Mr. Creighton had been working in the district as long term substitutes since Sept. 2007. Mr. Creighton worked last year as a part-time (90 percent) teacher.
Administrative assistant Kate Bender’s retirement request was accepted, effective August 3rd. Teacher aide Susan Jerome will also be retiring, effective June 27.
The resignation of Kenneth Graham, director of science, was accepted effective at the close of business on June 30. Joan Marie Balsari was appointed administrator of the district’s elementary summer reading program. Nicole Lynch was approved to work as supervisor of the summer arts enrichment program.
James Falletti, Eileen Giarratano, Richard Gress, Johnnie Morales, Richard Wos, Carmela Stone Klein, Kieran Mock, John Gurrieri, Martha Ironman, Edward Enyart, Ellen Winter, Howard Goldberg, Annette Spronz and Robert Mallon were approved as adult education instructors. They will be paid at the rate of $25 per hour.
Trustees approved 48 days of faculty time for summer curriculum projects at a rate of pay of $200 per diem. Vincent Russo was approved to work as a summer driver education program instructor. He will be paid $44.92 per hour.
Richard Florio, Marie Lavery, Amanda Marino, Carol O’Neil and Matthew Weinman were added to the district list of instructional substitutes. Joann Butkiewicz was appointed a 10-month senior clerk typist and assigned to Huntington Intermediate School where she will replace the retiring Regina Zorn.
Teacher aides Jennifer Schwab (Flower Hill) and Margaret Getter (Jefferson) and food service worker Gladys Tharaldsen had their resignations accepted.
Trustees appointed Jessie Brennan (reading, Southdown), Margaret Dukoff (reading, Southdown), Amanda Meyer (math, high school), Marie Toscano (English, Finely), Vincenza Famiglietti-Caruso (classroom, Huntington Intermediate), Elizabeth Moran (classroom, Washington), Kristin Kopf (classroom, Flower Hill), Marisa Damiano (classroom, Jefferson), Laura Lipow (compensatory math, Woodhull) and Robert Gruebel (compensatory math, Woodhull) as long term substitutes during the 2008/09 school year.
Social studies teacher William Bryne was approved to return to his high school position from a leave of absence, effective Sept. 2008. Teachers Alissa German (special education, Washington) and Carrie Postel (physical education, Huntington Intermediate) were granted leaves of absence.
